What size hook and bait were you using? Were you intentionally trying to microfish?

Last winter on the hard, that's a piece of dew worm coming out of it's mouth.

No pictures but I have caught dacy minnows and spot tail shiners in a few parkland lakes. One small maggot on a #14 snelled hook on 2 lb. line. Caught the minnows for my bait for the day.

Had to dig through the archives for this guy. I remember he put up a fight, I had to tire him out! My arms were like noodles by the end of it:) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
great thing about those minnows like the dace or chubs they are in huge numbers and when the actual fish you are targeting is not biting i change to old school actual stick with line and micro float and a tiny #20 dry fly bare hook with a tiny chunk of worm and catch those chubs left right and center. my buddies look at me funny but the way i see it is i am catching fish.

4 or 5 years ago I fished the Premier's Cup at Nipawin in the Saskatchewan River. We did okay during the pre-fish, not good but okay.
Two guys in a $65,000 boat, two grand to enter and numerous other expenses (as some of you know) and we did not catch a single fish bigger than my hand. Seriously embarrassing. Not much chance I will do that tournament again, but if I do- crankbaits! |
I caught 3 2” perch at Sundance at once.

Fishing for coho off East Sooke park a few years ago this stud hit a 3" buzzbomb. A clear case of "eyes bigger than stomach" and I still can't figure out how it got it's mouth on that hook.

"Caught" this monster last summer down at Police Lake. Foul - hooked the poor bugger.

-dorsal fin appears to have 8 rays -mouth looks to be subterminal with an overhanging rounded snout And compared to the Spottail Shiner, the eye is smaller and tail more forked. |

LoL and the smallest fish I ever caught was a Stickleback from the slough near the place I used to roam before they built condos on it. Rob |

I'd recommend that all serious anglers should invest in a Fish of Alberta book. It contains great paintings and descriptions. It also shows you the rough ranges that the fish are found in. |
