Anyone buying catalytic converters?

Is there any place in the Edmonton area that is still paying for old catalytic converters? Have a pile growing in the shop and looking to clean up.

I got a guy that buys them. Comes to your shop and pays good. I’ll get his number tommorow if anyone wants it

If you are selling them do your research. Not sure about cats but DPF makes a HUGE difference on value. I was offered $150 from a scrap metal guy after I gave him my numbers, looked it up and it was worth a lot more. Contacted a different guy and he gave me $800 for mine. Was just about enough to pay for all the parts I needed to do a full EGR/DPF delete.

Thanks for the input, I got some looking around to do I guess.

What numbers are your referring to?

I too am looking to sell my DPF system but want to understand the numbers you are referring to so I can validate the value. Thanks.

Search the model/year of vehicle they came out of. Most have a stamped number on them and you will need a wire brush to find it if covered in scale.

Looks up a DPF price chart to give you an idea (prices change drastically and most charts are in US funds)

Look on Kijiji for "we buy DFP" adds and call ALL of them (some make different adds but same phone number). Go with the highest bidder. I don't have the info for they guy I went with but he buys from most of the buyers then ships them. so we cut out the middle man and he offered me a couple hundred more than the others.

Or just go with the first guy to make you an offer and be done with it. It was a mission for me not to get swindled on this since I have been burn from scrap guys in the past.

Anyone running newer trucks, keep in mind this value. I had my exhaust cut off my truck a few months ago. Guys are in and out in less than a few minutes (it was on camera). Took about 4 weeks at ford due to the backlog and about $12,000.00!!

Found some guys in Spruce Grove that have a store front. Told me the number to look for and what each one would be worth. Handed me the cash once we verified the numbers. Safe and professional and not some fly by night guy that shows up and says oh that's only worth $100 bucks after promising $500. Called True North Converters. Take batteries for more than the recycle fee you get at the shop as well.

Sounds like catalytic converters and DPF systems are the new copper for thieves.

Ford diesel? $12000 is heavy freight for an exhaust system.

yep, apparently the Fords are getting hit heavy. We had 3 trucks in 4 months, with the bill being anywhere from 9 - 12k depending on damage.... they aren't very gentle during the process haha. My truck was hit in Spruce Grove.

A friend had his cat convertor stolen off his Dodge at a gun show B.C.
BIG dollars to replace!
