Lake white help
Would love to get me a lake white before seasons end. Just c&r.
I've been trying all year but haven't managed to be in the right place at the right time. Also not an area of expertise. Any help appreciated. Pm if you prefer. I'm in Edmonton region but I'll drive pretty much anywhere in province lol. Tight lines |
Go to Wabamun , find your way to the train trestle. (north side)
Use a slow or medium sink line (type 2 or 3).Tie on a wire worm or a gold ribbed hares ear. cast out and let it sink for a minute or two. You may have to let it sink for longer or shorter periods of time, in order to find the level the fish are at. Always , for years did well there . use shorts strips 3 to 4 inches for your retrieve. I think other patterns will work as well . I used hares ear most of the time. |
In the southern reservoirs they spawn on dam faces, lots of rocks. I would imagine they would look for the same thing in the north. I have done well with blood worm flies under an indicator right against the dams in Oct.

This is intriguing to me as well. I often see them rising at Lac St. Anne and figured they should be susceptible to a fly, but hardly anyone seems to angle for them in the summer- more of a hard water target.

I have caught them at the trestle after the spill. That being said I have not seen any of them in the winter for a few years now.
They say that a chemical that leaking into the lake during the oil spill prevented their eggs from hatching for multiple years. The comment about rocky shorelines makes sense. The trestle is quite rocky and is next to a reed bed. Finger crossed that they are making a comeback. They are so fun to catch in open water. |
Thanks for the additional input folks. Maybe I'll make a run by the trestle tomorrow. I'll definitely post back results when I get after them.

Tried wab and st Anne out. No luck so far.
