Retirement present

So my boss is retiring after 30 plus years at the same job. I have drawn a blank on what to get him for a going away present. He’s an avid motorcyclist, fisherman and horse guy. Any ideas on what would be appropriate?

Sounds like a guy that's trying to get away from something. New wife?

A real nice rod and reel set up would be appropriate, depending on which type of fishing he really likes.

Powered ice auger.

What's your price point. I believe milestone gifts should be simple timeless.

Lazer cut sign of his favorite motorcycle, sports team, horse theme etc.

My dad's sheet metal shop in Red Deer can cut anything you'd like. Can paint it yourself or they have some painted and hydrographic applied ready to go. Hawk Custom Sheet Metal.

An old boss of mine was an avid shooter/hunter who had always wanted to get into reloading. With all of the free time he would supposedly have being retired, we all pitched in and bought him an RCBS Deluxe Reloading Kit. He loved it!!

If fishing is his gig, does he like fly fishing? A deluxe fly tying kit, with high quality vice and materials is an option. You'll have to feel him out a bit on what he hopes to spend more time doing once retired. Also a lot depends on price point. If money doesn't allow for a reloading or fly tying kit, maybe a nice high quality landing net or similar. My wife bought me a personalized Rushton landing net a few years back with my name laser engraved on handle, done by the maker.

I like giving custom built knives as retirement gifts :)

Perhaps some unique piece of art like a carving?

A firm hand shake if he was a good boss that was respected. If he did his part his legacy is gratitude for his dedication and that would be all he needs.

I like it, or a nice watch.

Prairiewolf 04-24-2018 06:20 AM

The custom knife sounds nice.

See if he's got a nice picture of a motorcylce, or a hunting or fishing spot around, or ask his family. Print shops can blow those up and put them on canvas - could be a nice addition to his home.

Thanks for the ideas guys. I went with the knife, had some engraving put on it.
Gonna miss this old boss, stand up guy, kind of old school too. Wish it was me retiring.......

Man I wish I was your boss ........... I'd retire just to get a custom knife.

Great Idea BTW

That's easy, just snag him a fiery 23 year old escort!
