Monster Ling

Catching some Monster Lingcod With the Family using 16 Oz Jigs and a Gibbs Delta double Glow Tail with a piece of salmon for bait. Depth range from 150 to 250 feet of water. Gear was the Penn Warrior reel with 60 pound braid on a Rapala Halibut rod. Biggest ling was 50 inches long and had one massive head on it. Stick around to the end of the video if you want to see the giant!

Wow, nice fish. At 8:40 you have a beast on the boat. Curious as to what kinda weight that one is?

Thanks for the video

If you think that one is big just keep watching the biggest is at the end.

The one at 8:40 I'd estimate around 40 pounds. These are estimates cause I only had gut/gilled weights. The one at the end was 50 inches long and weight 39 pounds with no guts or gills. So had to be around 50 + neighborhood.

Kids should be wearing life jackets. Flame away.

Noticed the same thing, I wonder how people drown were wearing Pfds? Anyway those were some hogs, that's some good sashimi right there!

In one shot in the video one of them was wearing a PFD. I don't want to defend the lack of lifejackets on the kids since that gets me no where on several occasions.

But the stats are great, so here they are since I'm concerned about you guys too!

Actually 20% of boating related drownings occur while people are wearing a PFD. I'd say that's about the same rate I see people wearing life jackets. Also 1/3 to 40% are related to Alcohol use prior.

From Statistics Canada it's actually you older guys who are at risk of drowning from not putting on a PFD. So if you're an old drunk fishermen you are at the highest risk of death... buckle up! PFD's don't even show up in risk assessment till ages 15+.

Risk assesment from Canada:
AGES O TO 4
• Alone near water (58%)
• Supervision absent (49%)
• Supervision present but distracted (43%)
• With other minors only (23%)
AGES 5 TO 14
• With other minors only (35%)
AGES 15 TO 19
• Not wearing a PFD when relevant (90% of deaths for which PFD
information was available)
• Alcohol consumption (41%)
• Alone (27%)
• In, on or near water after dark (23%)
AGES 20 TO 34
• Not wearing a PFD when relevant (86% of deaths for which PFD
information was available)
• Alcohol consumption (51%)
• Alone (29%)
• In, on or near water after dark (28%)
AGES 35 TO 64
• Not wearing a PFD when relevant (76% of deaths for which PFD
information was available)
• Alone (49%)
• Alcohol consumption (42%)
AGES 65+
• Not wearing a PFD when relevant (80% of deaths for which PFD
information was available)
• Alone (69%)
• Alcohol consumption (21%)

7 Deaths apparently while fishing from Shore... I mean how drunk did those guys have to be???

Those are great Lings there Tofinoguy! I seem to have boat trouble every single time I launch in Ukee, so I haven't been able to explore much past south bank. But would really like to put in time to find good hali and bottom fishing around there too. Looks like some great slabs around there too.

Awesome video! Thanks for Sharing! Great day on the water!

For what it's worth in my boat the rules are if you can swim and we are stopped you don't need a pfd. If we are moving everybody wears one.
Simple and works well.

They have a boat launch in Tofino last I checked and I trailer my boat where ever I want to fish. I'm not asking for coordinates don't worry. Plenty of area to explore out there and enjoying searching myself. Navionics charting makes it straight forward if you know what you're looking for.

Thanks, we actually really like the town of Ucluelet and have never actually even swung up the road to Tofino. May have to check it out next summer. Thanks for the offer, I'll keep it in mind!
