fly tying desk
 

well after tying for the past 10 years on the same old table ,i would like to find a nice desk just for tying
wondering what you guys are using and where you got it ?
pics would be cool !

I have an old steel multi level computer desk. it has 3 work surfaces and the keyboard slide out. my vice is attached to the center table, tying material &tools sit on the slide out. computer sits on the left table, tying material sits on the right with my tying books. the bulk of my small tying stuff sits under the right desk in an old 8 drawer sewing box. the complete desk is almost 4'×8' . each work surface can be raised or lowered as required. it weights 300lb so I can basically stand on it with out worry and the missus never asks for it to be moved for vacuuming :)

And she thinks you're saving money as you are tying your own flies instead of buying them. Baahahaha.lol

computer disk for me as well. doubles as a reloading bench, archery bench. pretty much, just a cool place too hang out.

What are those large ziplocks full of black, purple, orange and pink stuff?

lately, i mostly tie steelhead flies.1 lbs bags of marabou,ostrich,rhea.

That's sweet, being passed down like that. i have a buddy who has an antique roll top as well, I've been trying to find one for a little while now.

Like Jayhad, I think the heritage of your desk is pretty cool. Really neat thing to pass down in your family.

I was also a fan of the pieces you have on display on the top of the desk (reels, flies, wicker) I bet it would be fun to see some of the stuff you have collected over the years.

Lots of stuff certainly, you can see some of it on my blog with the link below. I have a weakness for old Hardy reels when I can afford them, and other old fly fishing goodies. Mind you being a third generation fly fisher I did inherit a few things. The best a love of fly fishing.

You caught that did you, He He. Yep she lets me in the house now that we moved to the NW into a bigger house and I don't tie as much volume as I did. Guess she figures I'm housebroken now. Here is a picture of half of the the old fly shop.

My wife gave me the furnace room to tie in. Concrete floor, just as long as I clean up after I am done. As far as the table, I use my old kitchen table from my old one room apartment. Mounted some shelves above it, and have a plastic storage tower with pull out drawers to keep everything clean. Works quite well actually.

Nice to have that man cave space. Don't have to worry as much about spills or cleaning up a mess.

Yeah it works quite well. My wife don't like spiders and cobwebs so she has tendency to stay out of that room. That is where I hide her Christmas presents lol. She won't allow me to put a fridge in there yet but I do drag the laptop down there as I have power right by the table and watch tying clips online to get new ideas for my next creation.

Fly tying tip tip: Scotch doesn't need a fridge.

You should...I am interested myself....that is one very nicely designed table!

You guys are going to laugh. I have not fly fished yet(next year),but often use a very small casting bubble with flies on my spin rod. So i make a small number of flies for myself yearly.
I clamp a very small vise grip to hold the hook, on to a shelf with a larger vise grip. Its in my storage room. Hey it works for the ugly flies i make. Ive actually tied quite a few just in my hands too. So far no work bench needed.

This is the one i have. It was for bid at a trout unlimited auction in edmonton... and was a steal. Nobody seems to want to pay half price for anything nice at the auction in edmonton....
