Trump to sign executive order on social media on Thursday: White House
Reuters Report .......
Some will argue that this is the beginning of silencing free speech - a complete and utterly ironic contradiction to what he is charging .......... The same steps taken by tyranical governments, dictators, fascists and communist. Complete control of what you believe, and what you are told. https://ca.reuters.com/article/busin.../idCAKBN2331NK |

Stay safe comrades.
Dodger. |
The article states that they have no knowledge of what the EO may contain.
EZM, take a chill pill. Get back to us when you have something TDS.... |

No government should ever limit free speech. The constitution protects that, and this could be a problem (depending on the nature and possible over reach) of this executive order. Let's see what happens - this is perfect timing to do this now as there are some pretty big distractions going on in the news in the USA. |

Imagine a world without Facebook or Twitter or whatever else online ridiculousness where you twit a tweet every time an idiotic thought crosses your mind and the mindless drones stare at their screens in anticipation of something intelligent ,only to be disappointed over and over and over and day over and over and ov.......

“What if” lol. I think that’s pretty well established |
EZM,
You nor I or Reuters have a clue what the EO is going to include. Anything you say about what the EO may effect is pure speculation. What we do know.... Trump had his tweets censured. Which is a form of stifling Free Speech. So Trump is contemplating taking action against those that infringed on his and other's Rights. Sounds like Trump is trying to protect American's Free Speech. |

Who checks the facts? Is manmade climate change true? Does this lockdown work? Did the FBI kill JFk... anyway just saying who is in charge of "fact" checking. Who decides if it isn't true? What if you find out next year it was true. The onus should be on the individual to make up their own mind about "facts" |
Quote:
You must know to be so Inline with these "authorities".... Or do you just blindly follow along? And how does being "fact checked" allow for losing the right to Free Speech? Here's a fact check. Trump is correct in claiming that mail in voting is rife with potential for abuse and fraud. This Fact Check proves that the Twits at Twitter and you are wrong, and thus must be silenced. Play Stupid games, win Stupid prizes. |
The problem with social media companies is that they try to act like publishers but are in fact platforms.
Platforms = operate as impartial, open channels of communication Publishers = Exact opposite of Platforms And the big issue with Twitter, google(youtube), and facebook is that they tote themselves to be platforms, but act as publishers when to come to political opposition. |
Hey EZM. Quick question buddy. Are you originally from Ontario?

When corporations hire ceo’s they offer annual compensation and a performance dividend. This country like yours is a corporation at its base. This president has brought EVERYONE up. If that brings more business to his hotel empire more power to him. A poor America benefits no one in this country nor around the world. The Jury is far from even being seated and the facts not available to make any judgements on this pandemic situation at this point. Osky |

You have giant media companies with very clear and proclaimed biases by their management and ownership deliberately censoring or promoting political ideas during an election year. I do think this is a free speech issue, in favour of. Much of what the msm and social media does in both Canada and the United States can no longer be said to be non-partisan and even more importantly could be interpreted to be active campaigning for a politician or party. There are very specific rules about third party advertising, lobbying, transparency and campaign financing, which the media gets to skirt around. I’m completely in favour of Trump protecting ALL speech (except hate) on giant platforms like facebook and twitter. |
Meh ❗
.
Or then again ... it's probably just another one of his 'Trumper-Tantrums'. :rolleye2: Carry on . . . Selkirk |
Censorship is good until you're the one being censored....

I can’t say that I particularly like Trump but I certainly don’t hate him.One of the things he does though , that I very much enjoy , is run the media and his haters like the dog in that cartoon. The media gets on him for one thing or another and he just points over there and says Squirrel! and they crank their heads around and run off chasing the next big story forgetting all about what they were trying so hard to out him on the day before.
99% of the media manufactured crisis about Trump’s presidency is just that “manufactured” hype from a group that is so obsessed with their hatred of a man they will jump on anything to bring him down. Facts and real journalism just get in the way of an agenda like that. Say what you want about the man but he’s no dummy and he’s 2 steps ahead of the media and his haters most of the time. |
