Rice of The Sea

VERY Interesting!!

The rice of the sea: how a tiny grain could change the way humanity eats

Ángel León made his name serving innovative seafood. But then he discovered something in the seagrass that could transform our understanding of the sea itself – as a vast garden

Care to elaborate?

Personally, I think that it's great that scientists and visionaries are looking for alternative food sources. I'd be thrilled to give this "grain" a try.

We keep working our way down the food chain, because it's the only way to supply demand.

Tiny shrimp and seaweed "grain" can hardly be considered as related to Soylent Green. Food security is an issue that must be tackled. We can't all be eating steak and crab; these types of alternative food solutions offer an opportunity to feed a lot of hungry mouths in poorer countries. Algae are also excellent at cleaning the oceans and absorbing carbon dioxide.

Personally I'd give these two foods a try not as an attempt to save the world, but to simply discover and appreciate their culinary value. Krill loaf with sea rice side sounds pretty good to me!
