I think it's a nice gesture.
That's being said, I wouldn't feed it to my dog.

Edit: Now I see what your question was.:sign0161:

Shoot what you will eat, no need to shoot another just because you have a tag.

Lefty-Canuck 01-29-2015 05:49 PM

Another person goes on to ask..."is it freezer burnt?" To which the first replies..."I dont know I haven't unwrapped any to check"

aahhh!!!, the benefits of the good old supplemental tags.....

KWO 01-29-2015 05:54 PM

Bothers me a lot.

burbotman 01-29-2015 05:57 PM

Bothers me as well, what a waste. If you are not going to eat it do not shoot it.

edmhunter 01-29-2015 05:58 PM

^^^^^^Touche!!!!

conan 01-29-2015 05:59 PM

There is probably some less fortunate families that would gladly take it.

LKILR 01-29-2015 06:00 PM

Too many people out there killing with no intentions of eating it! It's a total waste of meat and opportunity for ethical hunters to harvest some game for the table. I see this all too often! People pretending to be hunters. They just want to kill. They don't care about the meat.

CritterCommander 01-29-2015 06:04 PM

Maybe they had it butchered at Gour Mart and read these threads!

Dacotensis 01-29-2015 06:05 PM

Could be some woman giving away her exs bounty. Maybe he's in the clink.
Maybe moved back home....
Could be many scenarios. Death? Illness.
I still don't like it either but I have no doubt the meat will get used by someone.

dmcbride 01-29-2015 06:13 PM

Yep.

It bothers me. Eat what you shoot or at very least give it to someone else who will.

freddy27 01-29-2015 06:14 PM

Not a 100% sure but isn't that illegal? maybe they got the Suffield fed tags and they need the freezer space:). Sorry couldn't help myself. Yes that upsets me to no end

Talking moose 01-29-2015 06:15 PM

Never a good thing to waste meat.
On the other hand, atleast they are making an effort to put it to use instead of just trashing it.

pacs5 01-29-2015 06:21 PM

Would this not be covered under this regulation?
:sHa_shakeshout:
http://albertaregulations.ca/huntingregs/genregs.html

allow the edible meat of any game bird or big game animal (except cougar or bear), to become unfit for human consumption.

Kurt505 01-29-2015 06:23 PM

Did they say how much they have? I guess if they never unwrapped it to see if it's freezer burnt it doesn't matter, but I've had meat go bad before, all kinds not just wild game. If it's just like a couple packs they don't want to throw in the garbage I don't see it as being a bad thing.

It's does say "freezer full", my interpretation is that's more than a couple packs....now is that a chest freezer or a fridge freezer? That I dont know.

Lot's of unknowns to draw any conclusions. Could even be that it is a lady who's husband passed away and she does not like deer meat. In any case it's a shame to see any game go to waste!

The Fisherman Guy 01-29-2015 06:30 PM

Bothers me too Lefty, but as was said earlier - there could be valid reasons why this situation occurred.

I don't think this is a supplemental tag issue, does taste great :sHa_shakeshout:

Ya that's true, I guess even a fridge freezer holds a lot of meat.

trigger7mm 01-29-2015 06:33 PM

does this bother

I agree it is a huge waste of meat and these are the kind of people that give other hunters a bad name. But I don't think it's fair to say that's what supplemental tags do. Just because you don't think there should be supplemental tags. Lots of people get great use out of that extra meat. Me personal, I have shot one doe in the last four years due to low numbers in my area.

Back on topic complete waste of meat and people that let meat spoil like that should have there licence taken a way for a year.

Lefty-Canuck 01-29-2015 06:44 PM

My annoyance comes with the fact this person didn't check the meat to see if it was still edible...I have had the odd pack of meat get mixed in and "misplaced" for up to 3-4 years....I unwrapped it and it was still very edible. If wrapped properly and stored in a good freezer meat can last a few years. Now not sure if this person assumed it wasn't fit for humans because it was 2 years old? Because they didn't check for freezer burn...that I know.

I just was taught that if you kill it you eat it (varmints and predators except of course)....just seems like an awful waste to me.

CanuckShooter 01-29-2015 06:57 PM

It's not going to waste if someone claims it. Really one of you guys should try and get hold of that awesome sausage making material. :sign0176:

Hal, if I had to wager on it, I would place my money on it being a guy who buys a tag and hunts for the kill, and maybe the camaraderie, but doesn't enjoy the meat, as opposed to a guy filling extra tags.

I know a few guys like that, but they always make sure they give the meat to someone who will use it.

Hope you are right, very likely you are....
