The best self climbing treestand??

Hi Guys,

I'm looking at buying another new stand, went toward ladder stands. But I have a mule deer trip planned and would the mobility of a self climber. What is the sturdiest self climber out there that is not like packing in a ladder stand!

I want light but very secure, also I'm about 235lb with no gear so a good rating would be nice.

I will be away for a few days, hopefully when I return there will be a census and also where did you buy yours?

Thanks

Trevb

I have a summit viper ss. A bit bulky and a little on the heavy side, but comfy and really sturdy in a tree. I feel secure and safe when i use mine, but i wish it was a bit thinner and lighter. On another note the stir-ups area nice accessory to add to help make thinks easier.

IMO the two best ones to look at are the Summit Viper SS/Ultimate Viper SS and The Lone Wolf Sit and Climb Combo.

Can you buy summit stands in Calgary?

High_N_Wide 08-14-2009 10:26 AM

Well after a couple of days of getting pushed down the line, seems the summits are the most common. I wonder if that is because these are the first climbers you have used, or because there are not of different ones available at Alberta stores?

Thanks

Check the reviews on the Cabela's web site... I've found it really helpful.

They are both relatively light, and the advantage of the Lone Wolf is that it folds completely flat for carrying (you don't have the bands protruding while backpacking it). I also like the fact that the climbing bar isn't in your way when you're sitting in it.

Bass Pro should carry the Summit stands. I know they used to carry Lone Wolf too, but I think they don't stock them anymore. I ended up ordering mine from Shooter's Choice in Waterloo.

Stinky, you are pretty happy with the lone wolf? Are they easy to climb with and very solid once in the tree?

Thanks

Trev
