Wild Nodding onions

It’s been years since I’ve seen any, but I saw a crapload of them around Drumheller today.

I often notice wild onions on south facing slopes near lakes and creeks. I picked two bushels last year and ended up with 8 pints of pickled onions. Yummy.

I haven't seen any in the bush, but my mother-in-law used to have what she called 'winter onions' up against the south side of her buildings, perennials that came up right after the snow melted and had little purple blossoms. We'd have delicious green onions galore from them!
I wonder if they're the same thing, either wild ones domesticated or tame ones gone wild?

There's a few banks and islands on the bow that produce amazing onions under the right condition's, this should be a good year.

Allium cernuum.

Yum.

Very easy to domesticate and divide, they spread like grass, dig them up divide and replant.
