You may need glasses checked:)

Honestly, I appreciate all gun stores, but I only buy from P&D if no one else has it. Lots of people talk about knowledgeable staff... yada yada. I find most don't really know much, if anything, more than the people at Cabela's.

P&D wanted over $200 more than what I paid for this rifle from Phoenix Gun Range, who happily matched the lowest online price from an established store, which P&D would not do.

Oops , my bad.

Ballistics chart

1 Attachment(s)
Pretty Spicy ballistics for this cartridge. Ran it threw my applied ballistics app. Created the chart with a velocity of 3000 fps using a 143 ELDX

If you use 1600 fps as a velocity the bullet still expands and 1000 foot pounds of energy you have a range of about 750m or over 800 yards for deer hunting.

Better Chart

Did the previous post on a cell phone. This is a better chart.

Ran the same data on the Hornady 4dof app and got a different result. There data states at 900m a velocity of 1812 fps and 1043 foot pounds. Hmm strange I am inclined to trust the applied ballistics data over the hornady data.

JBE 12-21-2022 03:36 PM

That chart matches quite closely with one from JBM ballistics with my 6.5prc and 140 accubonds

marky_mark 12-21-2022 04:33 PM

Id recheck all your input values

markg 12-21-2022 06:21 PM

Thanks

I did just that and discovered that I did one at 3000 fps and the other at 3050

Christmas Miracle

SO I decided to clean out and organize my components safe today. Move some stuff around so I can have a shelf dedicated to my new 6.5 PRC powders bullets brass and loaded ammo. Lo and Behold I found a brick of cci 250 primers!!!!!!

What a score.

Twisted Canuck 12-30-2022 10:39 PM

Nice score is right, last time I found something I didn't know I had it was an unopened box of nosler 30 cal 168 gr custom competition bullets, don't know when or why I bought them and can't see me ever loading them in my 300 RUM but there they sit :thinking-006:

I've had money down on a Springfield 2020 Waypoint in 6.5 PRC for over a year with no news. Beginning to get annoyed, as the rifles should have been in Canada this spring. Thinking of canceling and building one instead, but the Waypoint offers a lot of nice features for the money.

Prophet River has a great deal on a new in box Christensen Ridgeline in 6.5PRC in their consignment section, if anyone is looking.

Did some load testing with a friends 6.5PRC yesterday and IMR7828 is worth considering. The results weren't good with the LRX, but I did shoot a sub 1/4" , and a sub 1/2" group with the eldx.

How was the velocity compared to R26?

Never measured it.

Smokinyotes 01-01-2023 11:03 AM

I have some test loads ready to go with R26 and 143 eldx for the new Tikka CTR 6.5 prc. After reading Ed’s post I also bought some US869 to try. Hopefully I can get more consistent groups than I did with the Mesa.

I tried the IMR7828, because it is currently available, R-26 may not be readily available for a year or more.

I never tried IMR 7828 or RL26 at the time as I didn't have any and still don't, I have a good supply of US869, Retumbo, H1000 and RL25 and have had good results with those so I'll stick with them, hope the 147 ELDM shoot as good as the 143 ELDX :)

Powder

Picked up a 1lb can of H1000 today, and a box of Hornady match ammo time to head to the range and see what this thing can do

wallz 01-01-2023 09:22 PM

I have also used N568 with success. Right now using H1000, just because it was a bit better groupings.

Probably the easiest to find as with the US869.

marky_mark 01-01-2023 11:41 PM

Us869 is super slow burning
I used it in my 26 nosler
I can’t see it being a good choice for a 6.5prc

Works great with the 143gr, haven't tried it yet with the 147gr but expect results will also be good, I'll let you know

Exactly, results matter a lot more to me than what someone thinks may or may not work.

Oh please
Us869 is very temperamental
What works in winter might not work well in the early fall

The load that I use was worked up was in Aug when it was +25, the last time I shot it was mid Nov when it was -3 and nothing seemed to change so that's the load I'm sticking with for now with the 143gr, I'll see what the 147gr shoots like with US869, Retumbo, H1000 and RL25 and go from there.

What are you getting for results with us869

Average between .5 and .6 MOA and 3050 FPS out of a 26" barrel with no pressure signs

That sounds pretty stable to me. I am using R-26 in my own 6.5PRC, but I still use IMR7828 in my 7mmstw, and I have used R-22 as well in my big game rifles. While it's nice if a powder is less sensitive to changes in temperature, I have killed a lot of animals with powders that aren't as stable, and it hasn't been an issue.

JBE 01-02-2023 08:40 AM

How much of an issue is temperature sensative powder to the majority of hunters? They are not shooting at game at extreme distances.
