.277 calibre and heavy 160 gr bullets

Does anyone here use 160 gr Nosler Partition in 270 win ,wsm or Weatherby
and what was your experience with them?
Personally I had a great results on a bid game moose and elk with them, but it was pretty close range , and so so an a deer.
Next season my boy will probably get his first moose draw and I am not sure which one to load in his 270 wsm for this hunt
160 gr Np or 140 gr Barnes TSX?
Thanks!

The TSX will out penetrate the 160 Partition. The 140 will have a flatter trajectory, and less recoil too.

TSX gets my nod.

I have

Used 160gr KKSP old CIL bullets in the .270 for deer pushing bush and they worked fine, but as stated the modern X bullet line will do the same thing more effectively with a lighter bullet.

Thank you guys for your replies!
I am kind of leaning towards tsx myself too.
I can lunch them at around 3050 with imr 4451 with a very good accuracy.
I could also send those 160s with rl19 at 3025 f.s which made me wonder if I would get any benefit out of those 20 gr extra weight with almost the same speed ...
Or probably not.

Sounds like you are have great success with the 160 , why argue with that ? The partition has an advantage of the nose of the bullet opening quick and the base penetrating . The x bullet at longer distances may lose any advantage over a nosler partition . They are both very good and arguments can be made for both .

Not arguing at all.
But just wanted to second my opinion on both. That's all.
160 NP seems to be not too much popular over all ,but when going to any major hunting stores I could see that they are not staying on the shelves for too long and people are buying them .
Means its enough of hunters who are using them.
That's why I posted this question ..

Been using 170 grain berger at 3050 fps the last two seasons with no complaints. Have taken deer, elk, and a bear.

That must be a nice long range combo!
1:9 twist?

.277

I have not loaded 160s in a 270 but i have killed alot of deer and elk even a moose and i personally find the 140s pretty hard to beat. Pick a well constructed bullet like the barnes or even an a frame and have at er.

Yes 1:9
It's a great long range setup, the high bc bullet carries energy very well downrange.

Ice Fishing Maniac 12-14-2017 03:31 PM

I would go with the TSX in 140 or the Long Range Accubond in 150gr if you want the bigger bullet.

I been shooting 140gr AB's out of my 270WSM rifles with great success (factory and reloads) for years. Would be nice to have a 140gr TTSX, or even if a guy could reload the 150gr XP3 bullet, that would be good.

blackonblackfx4 12-15-2017 10:20 AM

I've loaded them, they shoot really well and have good energy. Loaded some for a friend for moose hunting. It's a really long bullet

Surprisingly these long bullets were more accurate out of my 270 wsm then any other weight NPs 130s and 150s I tried .Not that it will be too important when after the moose size game, but I could almost never achieve 0.6- 0.7 group with NPs in any caliber and I tried them in many .308s cases, .243,
.323.
