Federal petition - C-71 Petition to repeal changes to firearms laws

Good Afternoon,

Please click the link for a federal petition sponsored by Lethbridge MP Rachael Harder to amend Bill C-71

https://petitions.ourcommons.ca/en/P...etition=e-1608

Just a bit of background, this petition was created and set up by a Southern Alberta teenager and sponsored by his local MP.

She also has this survey out 3 questions only, good one;

Signed but unfortunately even if all 2 million+ PAL/RPAL holders in Canada signed this it would have zero effect. The only thing that will repeal this once passed is a one and done PM and a return to a Conservative government in 2019.

2 signed...(Wife and myself)but she had to use her own email.

Doing nothing will surely accomplish nothing. 2 million signatures on a petition would be a good start in the right direction. People need to start being proactive and making their voices heard.

Every response to survey counts.

I always hate reading these things, they can be so confusing. So if I read this bill correctly if this passes we won’t be able to transport our non restricted firearms anywhere until we get our firearms registered? We will need that stupid little brown piece of paper? Sounds exactly how it was before the Harper government abolished the registry.

Not sure how you got to that conclusion ,but no ,it will have no effect on non restricted transport at this point. Restricted's will require a ATT to take anywhere other than an approved range in your province of residence. If you have the 12(9) class for the SAN and cz858 ,you can transport after getting an ATT from the CFO.
This is as it's proposed now ,the Committee may throw us a bone with allowing transport of Restricted's to a Gunsmith with out a temp. ATT.
Also ,I would be surprized if this doesn't Come into Force before Summer break for Parliament ,which should be around June 12th.

I took a screenshot of the section I was referring about. For some reason I wasn’t able to copy and paste it.

You are confused, it doesn't say that anywhere. I'm not sure how you drew those conclusions.

That section refers to the Transfer of non restricted firearms, as in buying or selling a firearm will require phoning the CFC to verify both parties have a valid PAL ,then will be issued a Verification number ,which will have to be kept on file by both parties for 20 years.
Nothing to do with Transporting non restricted ,which will remain the same as current laws require.
Hope that clarifies.

Incorrect. The 20 year period applies to businesses, not private sales.

Although it would fall within the realm of liberal lunacy to expect citizens to keep a piece of paper for 20 years after they buy/sell a firearm.

Don't give them any more bright ideas.

Yes ,you are correct ,20 years for business .
I apologize for any further confusion.

Thanks, yes that helps out a lot. So there isn’t any push for the liberal government to know exactly how many non restricted firearms there are in circulation right now?

32-40win 03-30-2018 08:22 PM

They broke the 22,000 mark this afternoon, that was around 4;00, so, it was initiated about 11;00AM on the 28th, not bad, but, should be higher.

32-40win 04-02-2018 02:16 PM

Cleared the 36,000 mark today. This one is an MP sponsored petition, so it has to be presented to Parliament. Keep it going up. And write some letters and emails, it all counts, it all gets handled by someone, gets talked about and noticed in the halls of Ottawa.

Fairly decent response to petition from Alberta based on population but other parts of Canada need to stop dragging their feet before it is too late!

I'm really surprised and disappointed with back home in NL over this. The province is chock full of hunters. You can't drive through rural NL without seeing a set of moose antlers above practically every garage or shed door. 30,000 moose licences issued every year, I emailed it to a bunch of friends and family back home and most emailed me back saying they'd signed it but that number is embarrassingly low. My Dad said the same thing. Sad.

32-40win 04-05-2018 12:14 PM

I wonder how many people had the validation email come back and wind up in the junk mail box, and never actually confirmed it? May want to remind them on that point.

32-40win 04-07-2018 01:31 AM

57546 tonite, couple hundred will put this petition in 3rd place in the largest petitions. Should happen over the weekend, need a lot more yet, and we need to keep spreading the word.
I have no idea where they found that 32nd person in Nunavut.

GummyMonster 04-07-2018 02:29 PM

Signed x 2

32-40win 04-07-2018 03:13 PM

They say 1 letter =400 votes. If all 58.000 signatories of this petition, sent 10 letters to Parliament and the Senate, imagine that impact statement. Even if a letter only counts as 100 votes--what does that say to the gov't, that is still 5.8 million votes. And it is 580,000 pieces of mail flowing thru those offices--that is something physical, in their face and in their hands. And they pay the postage, so to speak.
