Trophy Antelope
Good luck to those heading out for Trophy Antelope! Be safe and smart. If haven't already done so, go buy a small fire extinguisher to carry with you while out in the field - they are less than $30 at Canadian Tire, half the price of the antelope tag. It's VERY dry this year in antelope country.
We have 4 trophy antelope tags, all with family members who haven't hunted for years together - we're all looking forward to it. Finally, our group has a couple of bull elk tags as well for the zones surrounding Suffield (in all directions) and stretching out to Taber and Bassano. From my scouting and talking thus far, there aren't nearly as many elk as before (~7,400 head at peak to about ~1,500 now) but we're hoping for some luck and catch some on the move out of the British bloc. Please shoot me a PM if you see some bull elk while antelope hunting - those were a 10+ year wait for those tags as well so we could use any help from the hunting community to fold them. Good luck! |
Best of luck to you and the family, sounds like it will be quite the adventure! :sHa_shakeshout:

Great advice on the fire extinguisher ! I have some friends hunting in that area next week so I will ask them to keep their eyes peeled for elk.
|
My wife and I will be out Sunday scouting the area I have permission on and hope to put a good buck to bed for her and be on him Monday early. Good luck to you all and stay safe, seems to be the week people leave their hunting ethics at home.

The speed goats are tending their ladies, watched a few battle yesterday.. It's dry so access may be limited to foot access only, numbers are good and there are a few around worth a second look...
Only seen one good bull this past month, might do 330 all in... All the best to those in the field. |
2022 Goat
There are alot of respectable Antelope Bucks out there this year, awesome year to have the tag!

Antelope

3 weeks ago i went looking and a helpful landowner guided me to the general area of this buck which i located...few locals say he is B&C but i got him pegged at around 77.5" ish gross...think is is over 80" ? Am i under estimating the buck?
October Zone so the family member with the tag still has a few weeks to decide what buck to pursue... |
I think I've seen more antelope this year while driving around than any other year I can remember. Odd though, I haven't seen anything worth shooting. Should be a good year for those with tags.

I think he scores close to 80. He has high cutters ( extra circumference), good length but not really heavy. Wish you all the best! And hopefully get a real score.
|
Last one I shot was 76-6/8. This one looks pretty similar with better cutters.

Thats a nice one , I would not pass on him .
Looks like they are bent to the rear a little . |
Great alberta antelope there, close to 76-79 is a good estimate
|
My wife tagged out before lunch with a respectable antelope. Had a typical douche antelope hunter run in this morning though. Eye opener for my wife she didn’t realize that a lot of antelope hunters have no ethics.

Antelop
Looks bigger to me. I would say 80-81 inches he is at least 16 inches long with good cutters and good mass.

We moved on and found another decent buck and did a good stalk on him and she got him. So had some good memories made later on. Maybe it will get posted on here, I will certainly recognize it. Last time we hunted there had the same thing happen were hunter literally pulled in two car lengths in front of us to after the same buck. Maybe if they made the season a bit longer there would be this mad rush by hunters I don’t know. But there were hunters driving all over all day. Very busy. |

Not a monster but she was very happy and with her health issues a job well done. Tough day for her. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Congrats to your wife. That’s a nice antelope. Douche bags suck. Good end to the day though.
|
Congrats to your wife! :)
I had a landowner pull that crap on me a few years ago after giving me permission the night before. :rolleye2: |
That's a nice looking buck. Sorry to hear about your experience. I'm not looking forward to seeing hunters everywhere I go and racing to get the first shot.
