Win model 88
Is there a better traditional rifle ... Steel magazine
One peice walnut stock , slick lever action sucks if you don't have one 243, 308, 284, 358 all good and colectors now |
I disagree, the Savage 99 was/is way cooler.
Alas, I sold my 88’s and 99’s, and only have a BLR in the stable now, and that one is a ‘77 vintage one. The true gem of the modern high pressure lever guns is the Sako Finnwolf, that is the truest and finest gem of the lot, and very much the rarest, I’ve only seen a few and never had the $ to secure one. |
The 88s got a renewed attention after Milo Hanson broke the record.
I had one in 284 that I gave to a friend. He loved the 88s and did find a Finnwolve but dumped it shortly after getting it. It didn't shoot or function any better than the 88s so being easy to sell, down the road it went. |
You gave away a Win 88 in 284 ...
must be a very good friend Anyway I agree with you , the 88's are a fine tuned and good looking , well balanced rifle .... and the price is going up everyday |
Had a 88 in 308 given to me by my wife’s Uncle and I passed it on to my son. Nice rifle but I would say I am partial to the 99 as well.

I do like the 88s just wasn't using it. |
I had a 99C in .308 with a detachable magazine still regret selling it. Was a handy rifle and surprisingly accurate for a lever gun was consistently 1.25-1.5 MOA with handloads.
