Shot my first buck in October, a decent 4x5. Went out on Monday and filled my supplemental's. Gonna have a busy day butchering on Saturday!

Nice edit (great white hunter?)....forgot to sign out and back in before you referenced you own post! LOL. LC |
Congrats Applejax! :sHa_shakeshout: Lots of good eats there!
Some people don't understand that from a conservation perspective you're much better off shooting a fawn instead of a doe. A topic for a different thread. PLUS, fawns are excellent eating. :) |

Ya, you'll probably get flamed for it, but I have no problem with someone shooting a fawn.
But.... I personally would rather shoot a mature doe, but only because there is more meat. Congrats on a successful season so far! |
Good on ya OP. Sounds like a good season
|
Congratulations on your hunt! We'll done!
|
not my cup of tea...but enjoy your harvest and put it to good use.....

Thanks guys! The doe I shot after more than made up for it. Here's some pics of what I made the buck into. This is my second year of big game hunting.
|
Right on! I'd be happy with shooting anything by this point. This season is pretty much shot. I have this saturday and next. Just bought a house so been busy working! Congrats nonetheless and don't listen to people ridiculing you. I've taken young animals before. They are tasty!
|
Great job... you are correct, nothing wrong with a "SMALL" doe. To each their own....
My mama always told me if I have nothing NICE to say then I should probably not say anything.... I think some people respond to ALL threads weather it is is good or bad just to say that they have XXX number of posts.... |
Nothing wrong with your harvest AJ. The fawn would likely not survive without the Doe. Should be some tender good eats. Congrats

I got a cow moose this year on the 353 draw.you can shoot whatever you want within the laws.its all good.i think people shouldn't pass judgement.when the laws change we will respect the law.enjoy your meat to me that's what it is,meat.weve been getting our meat for a long time.thats what man does.

Hmmmm, from what I can remember, a 6-8 month old pig is best for a pig roast. A 6 month old kid is best when you cook goat. So, what's the difference if it's a fawn? DAMN good eatin' !!!!
|
ignore the post then hal. If you don't have anything positive to say. Keep your mouth shut and don't say anything. AO forum is for people to enjoy...not get ridiculed.
|
Okay, back on track. :thinking-006:
WTG buddy, congrats, sure it will be good eats :) |
Nice job AJ. Congrats.

Kill em all
Fill every deer tag you can buy, there's lots of em!
Just because SRD will give a fellow a half dozen deer tags does not mean we should all limit out. Nothing against the OP, I remember being new at hunting when I was a youngster wanting to show myself how good I was by the body count, but sometimes it's wiser to limit our take. It sounds like deer numbers are down most places, might be a good year to pass on some does, even if we have tags and love those delicious smokies. |
Mmmmmm
Never meant that to sound "dikish" if it does, appologies OP, just hoping those who still have a pocket full of supplementals might let them hang on the Christmas tree unused this season till numbers are healthy again.
|
Congratulations on your success! Enjoy the venison:oregonian_winesmile

Numbers are down right now but if they continue to issue the tags and people choose to use them, then so be it. Been der, done dat myself. |

As it stands, I am purchasing a few general tags each year, but I am certainly no threat to the game population. I have a few double digit priorities that I hope to get around to using in a couple of years, when I retire. That being said, I still like my elk steaks, and my jalapeno and cheese smokies.:) |
