Getting Old Sucks!

You know you're getting old when the talk at the launch or dock is more about ailments and medications rather than choices of flies and presentation!

At least can still tie a loop knot on a #14!

Stinky Buffalo 10-12-2017 09:30 AM

It beats the alternative... :D

Dead people don't talk about ailments or flies.

Wait to you start putting things down and have no idea where you put them. I have now given up looking for small things that I put down and cannot find I just go and buy a new one. It is amazing how many times the lost thing never shows up.

You know you are getting old when;

1. You and your teeth don't sleep together.

2. Your try to straighten out the wrinkles in your socks and discover you aren't wearing any.

3. At the breakfast table you hear snap, crackle, pop and you're not eating cereal.

4. Your back goes out but you stay home.

5. When you wake up looking like your driver's license picture.

6. When your idea of a night out is sitting on the patio.

7. When happy hour is a nap.

8. When you're on vacation and your ENERGY runs out before your money does.

9. It takes longer to rest than it did to get tired.

10. Your address book has mostly names that start with Dr.

11. Getting "lucky" means you found your car in the parking lot.

12. Everything hurts, and what doesn't hurt - doesn't work.

13. You sink your teeth into a steak and they stay there.

14. You give up all your bad habits and still don't feel good.

15. You wonder how you could be over the hill when you can't even remember being on top of it.

This happens to me quite often and I am not old. Don't really want to imagine what it is going to be like when I am old, if I even get there.

Okotokian 10-12-2017 12:20 PM

You can't remember the names of half the "kids" in your department that you work with (and almost everyone is a kid to you now), but you can remember all the names of the people you started working with 35 or 40 years ago. I put half of it down to memory loss, and the other half to "I don't give a damn".

Speaking of "I don't give a damn", that IS one nice thing about getting older. You care less and less what other people think. And once you "make your numbers" at work, you don't even care much what your superiors think. LOL Fire me, please. :)

I’m not old yet (only 71) so not much familiarity with the downside ... well other than peeing a couple of times at night, and so far I wake up for that. Attended a 50 year high school grad reunion a few years ago and did see a lot of old people that are the same age. Thankful for the genes I got.

15 years older than your age - is 'old'.

When you're 15, a 30 year-old is 'old'.
When you're 30, a 45 year old is 'old.

Even when you're 60, the 75 year-old down the street is the 'old guy'.

And for him, the 90 year-old is 'old'.

Not without glasses you can't !!!!!

I turned just turned 45 last year and I found my eye sight, when looking at fishing line and reading small print was causing my arms to elongate .....

a year later, and my arms can no longer stretch out any further ..... so I guess glasses is what I'm destined for !!!!

Thank you for this thread. It reminds me of my best friend, who is 20 years older then me. More ammo for next time I tease him.

Close. It's called "dick do". Your stomach sticks out further than you dick do.

I just call it fat.

densa44 10-13-2017 06:56 AM

As others have said

It is not the getting old, it is what age takes from us that hurts.

Try to stay fit, exercise every day, keep your mind active and do not ignore depression. It is treatable and the treatment works.

Make the most of everyday.

I used to be that way. But over the years the age of others became less and less important until things reversed.

Now as I grow older, young becomes a wider and wider margin.

Around 40 a 20 year difference meant nothing, now it's more like thirty.

Now, to me a 90 your old does not seem that old and a 30 year old does not seem that young.

That puts me in a awkward situation. I'm fine being friends with a 30 year old or a ninety year old but the thirty year old is not so interested in being friends with me because to them, I'm too old to do anything or to understand their prospective. Plus they seem to think we have nothing in common.

For me, I remember being thirty. In fact I wish I were thirty. Plus I still like most of the same things I did back then. I still think the same as I did back then too. My body has aged but my mind has not.
I can still do everything I used to do, just at a slower pace now.

What sucks the most is that the women my age are no longer interested in intimacy and the younger women are not interested in men my age.

It's the accumulation of things that makes getting older suck. It's the aches and pains, the shortness of breath, the lower stamina and the non existent love life.

There's still a lot left to live for, a lot of things youth does not have. Like free time to do as I wish, like fishing. It's grande kids. It's not having to spend half of my day making some corporation rich and myself poor.
It's owning all or most of the things I always wanted, and having the time to use them. It's finally figuring what's important and what is not.

Most of all, it's waking up with a pulse when half the guys I grew up with are resting under the flowers.

I love when the hair in your nose and your ears grows more than the hair on top of your head and I'd like to know is my head shrinking or are my ears getting bigger as I get older

I look at it as wisdom well earned over time, still am super active, do what I want for entertainment but don't carelessly do what I did 30 years ago...:)
