Try a spot overlooking a well used game trail or terrain that forces the animals through natural funnels. Sometimes narrow shelter belts between fields work well too, especially for whitetails that like to stay in cover when they travel. Good luck.

x2 what KWO said,
Also, clear all branches and tall grass & scrub away from in front of your cam. and make sure the tree is a min 8" diameter tree, so it isn't your tree moving in the wind. TBark |
I mainly want pictures of bucks and so I most often set up the cam looking at a scrape. Scrapes are usually located along trails that bucks use so even when the rut is over it is a good place to have a cam set up.
Some guys will put bait out and have a camera on it. The trouble with that is you can get 75 pics of the same hungery doe eatin. When I set up looking at a trail I try to be sure the animals cannot move through quickly and set the cam off after they are gone or mostly gone. I learned some of this the hard way: http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...Picture333.jpg One day I was setting a cam on a trail and I happened to be sucking on a scotch mint. I chewed it a bit and spit it out on the trail. Got lots of pics of deer smelling the ground in that spot. Robin in Rocky |
Set it up on the most heavily traveled trail you can find.I also like to set up on scrapes or make a mock scrape with scents.Anything to bring an animal in that might be wandering by not following your trail.
