Fishers

Seeing 357xp pic of that neat looking fisher got me thinking how far south in Alberta does a trapper consistently catches fisher? I know I have never caught one, my Zone isn't even open to trap

Pretty common to get them west of Rocky here.

fisher

Lots of fisher on line by Edson, even have fisher around Wabamun lake, so good chance they migrate further south. Brian B mentioned very few fisher on his two traplines by Grand Cache.

We have a pretty good sized fisher running around the campsite near Devon. Wish we'd have a marten or two to keep the red squirrels in check!

Had a fisher hanging around my hunting spot for a couple years out by Onoway, gave me a show one evening and got pics of it on my cameras every now and then. Isn’t around anymore, last picture I got was with it in a coyote jaws going past my camera.

The Cooter , Gator and my self called one in to a Coyote call once. Was hilarious to watch him hump in across an open field. We were South of Vermillion. The next one I saw was on the river flats just in side Jasper National Park. Dogfish

fisher

I was reading Harold Matlocks Cranberry Ranch, Debolt book on weekend. He was one of first trapper instructors in Alberta. He once left beaver in tent and set a staked leg hold trap to save for bait. Fisher came in, got caught on back foot and totally shredded the tent.

I get pics of them semi regular on trail cameras on my place. Fresh tracks of one going across one of my sloughs yesterday morning. I’d never seen them around here up until the last 5 years or so but, they’ve probably lived here longer than I’ve been on the earth. There’s an absolute arse pile of snowshoe hare around here. With so much food, I’d be moving in and setting up shop too.

Live trapped for relocation purposes and also by caught in coyote snares east of Vegreville. They are getting prevalant around here

Decent amount of fisher up north, seems like the population is increasing.
Had 4 fisher to 1 marten on this check with a friend.

Jim , nice trap check. I find when you pick fisher off certain section of line the marten numbers go way up.

I've seen fisher in the Edmonton river valley, they seem to be everywhere in the farmland north and around Edmonton.

Fishers

We have them our place south of Calmar, they are great for keeping the cat population down. Spent a lot of time watching them.

Interesting animals.

There is a handful down in the southeast so wouldn’t be surprised if you had one there.
