Depth Charts: Jackfish Lake
 

Hey everyone, I was just surfing the net looking for a website that has depth charts for Alberta lakes. Specifically im looking for a depth chart of Jackfish Lake (west of stony plain). I love Anglers Atlas but find there's quite a few lakes without depth charts. Ideas anyone? Main reason im looking is since I fish from an inflatable and don't have a fish-finder or depth finder. I also dont wanna be "that guy" that goes around asking for everyone's honey holes. Here's a map with a marker where i have had my best luck.
I like to try and find my own spots but with the speed of my electric, the size of Jackfish and the boat traffic it can be a little hard ;D. If anyone has some good suggestions on a website with depth charts or a spot/area of Jackfish Lake to try it would be appreciated!!

One more quick question about Jackfish, Do walleye typically like the deep holes or roughly what depth are you looking at for 'eyes?

Awesome, that looks like what i want!

Slip bobber and a leech on Jackfish is deadly. Cigar shaped slip bobber, quarter ounce chartreuse and orange jig head, fished in about 6 - 10ft of water just off just about any shoreline. My favourite spot;

- Head out from the boat launch and go left of the island that's straight in front of you.

- Once past the island, keep left into the southern bay of the lake. Just as you come into that portion of the lake, keep right and there's a little flat on the inside turn.

You can easily hit 30 - 50 in a day and i've caught them well over 6-7lbs in there. The biggest I've heard of was just over 8, but another a friend caught and couldn't weigh one (forgot the scale) that was even bigger.

Thanks! I'll definatley give that a shot! How far should i put the leech under the bobber?

Just hook the leech through the sucker and have it riding off bottom about 6 - 12 inches. With the cigar shaped bobber (about 4 inches long) the quarter ounce jig head will make it stand up perfectly straight if it's off bottom - if it's on bottom, it'll lay down.

Just cast where you want it and see what it does. Keep adjusting until it lays down, then make 12 inch adjustments till she stands up. Too easy.

Don't be afraid to pitch one or two up towards the 3 - 5ft deep range. You'll be surprised. Best days for me on Jackfish - super hot and super calm. No s**t. Don't go without atleast half a pound of medium leeches (I find these work best)

Never really ever targeted walleye, but this tip has sparked my interest. Will have a go at er. From my experience with them at pigeon, braid does not spook them. Is this correct at jackfish?

Tyangelo, In my experience (not at jackfish, never caught walleye there) braid is fine for walleye as long as you don't use a steel leader. Also i use 14lb braid so if your using 30 it might be different. If you are worried about it though just tie a swivel on an then a 4-5 foot peice of fluro/mono after that.

Navionics App for iPhone
 

I spent $15 on the navionics lakes canada and US app for my iPhone. It has pretty much everything, depths etc. Has a GPS too - so you can easily mark the launch and head out for the day without worrying. You can also text/email your gps coordinates to friends so they can meet you on the water, or to rescue should anything happen.

I have never spend that much on an APP before, but this one is well worth it!

that lake has a few decent deep holes between the launch and island i read 43 feet on my fish finder i heard it was 50 but mine might be off a bit its 12 years old idk if u can get them calibrated but iam gonna try one of the new side imaging ones.

Are there good spots for shore fishing at Jackfish Lake?

Trying to find depth chart for Crow Lake about 45 min south of Ft Mac. Been driving by and flying over for many years.
Brothers and I are going to fish it next week but looking for some info.
Was there about 16 years ago but fished from shore. Kayaks and canoes this time.

I heard Jackfish had a big winter kill this year :thinking-006:
