gevarm .22LR
ok all you gun guys out there...help me out...my brother inlaw just inherited a gevarm .22lr from his grandpa....and it is missing the front sights as well as the magazine. anyone give me some solid leads on where to look for them. anyone have any history etc. on these rifles?..i know it is french...and i am actually pretty impressed with the rifle...very solid feel....great trigger. would love to get it in working condition for him. anyone know if a different brand of magazine will work in that rifle? is that a dangerous way to go about it??
thanks all. |

nvmd...called them, they are out...guess the search begins... |
Gevarm
Hey Clash, Is it a Semi Auto? They are scary as hell as when the bolt is open that's when they are ready to fire! I have one and it's kind of unnerving when you realize how they operate compared to say a 10/22.
|
yes it is a semi auto..and ya i have been reading some stuff about them..haha...and if i am not mistaken..there is no safety on this gun either??

ya there was a bit of play with the bolt handle...but i couldn't get it to function as a safety..i will have to check it out when i have it in my hands again.

Alot of them CAME that way, that ain't no safety button on some of them, that is called a happy switch:D Some of the earlier 1s were decent steel and walnut, the aluminum framed 1s were schlock |
gevarm parts
My dad has a gevarm .22 that is missing the magazine.I heard you can find them at western gun parts,he bought some there a few years ago,and then lost those too.It also has 5 or 6 extra sights under the screw in the pistol grip.As for the safety all you can do is,when the bolt is pulled all the way back push it into a locking hole. But for all it's little weirdisms it is a cool gun to shoot, and for it's age and all the abuse it took it is still very accurate even with bore sights.

Carbide .222
I inherited a Gevarm 222 Carbide, no model #, no serial #
Stock is broken, anyone know how to get an aftermarket stock, and where? |

As much fun as it is to get an old gopher killer back into action. I think that the appropriate course of action is for you to take your BIL down to wholesale sports and both of you buy NEW Ruger 10/22's!! YAY:wave: |
I had an old clunker of a 22 one time don't even remember what brand it was some hand me down that was so wore out ya just would have to tap the side of it and it would go off. I burnt it.

I have one and it shoots really well. The hot bolt set-up is kinda weird but that raised ridge that runs down the bolt face is your firing pin so it creases the entire back end of the case, I have never had a round not go off when I pull the trigger. I have even taken the shells my buddies 10-22's and others FTF and run them through it (probably not the best thing to do but I had to see if it would work) and it fires them first try. The only bad thing about it is the lack of an extractor, mine gives me a lot of stove pipe jams. I have the iron sights on it and it shoots well with them but I put a cheap little scope on it using the narrow rail that's machined into the top and it is great. Mine breaks in two if you remove the bolt in the end of the foregrip and holds zero when re-assembled. I only have 1 mag for it and have never come across any to buy.
I have to agree with tangokilo, for the cost of a 10/22 or some of the others out there I would just buy something you can easily get parts and mags for. It's a neat gun but not the greatest design and ejection reliability is kinda low. I think they used to make 15 or 20 round mags for it but good luck finding one. I replaced mine with a Rem 597 VTR and after installing a Volquartzen extractor and an M4 6 position stock I am very happy with it. Good luck whichever route you take. |

Sounds like an E1 |
I just ordered 2 mags from W.G.P yesterday, appaqrently there are still some in stock. Probably not for long though. They are supposedly " gunsmith fitting required". Hope they work...........for nearly $50 each.

My gevarm usually has at least one stovepipe failure for every mag I put through it. The accuracy is decent but I don't remember ever being able to make the same kinds of groups I can with my 597VTR. For $200 for a new 10/22 or 597 and $25-$30 for a 25-30 round mag compared to $50 for a 9 round mag I would buy a new one. Add to this the aftermarket parts and accessories available for either of those and it's hard to justify spending any money on an old gevarm. Just my opinion, |
do you want to sell it? i am looking for some parts
|
Check at the gunshows you might find a magazine at one some day
|
my gevarm must be to new yet, i have yet to see a 10/22 that jams less than my gevarm, but that may also be because i refuse to run cheap ammo through my 22's, unlike most of the guys i have seen shooting 10/22s. same as the old victor i used to shoot with, it hated cheap ammo. i wish i could buy a more robust version of the gevarm's "shooting from the open bolt", mine has the weak receiver and i'm always scared of breaking it. nothing better than pulling out the clip and not having to worry about the loaded shell still in the chamber, or slipping the clip in and not having to worry about working the action. gotta love the way the breach block slams the whole back side of the shell! i know a few guys with gevarms, and no one will sell for less than $200. a few years ago i came across a website that said there was a fella in ?Australia? that was selling clips?
|
I have seen one in full auto long ago and it shoots 20 shots in about 1 second which makes it totally useless. If you want to eliminate stovepipes in these you open up the ejection port right over to the left side. Probably one of the simplest 22's you can own. The A3 model had a heavy barrel and is quite accurate.

Western Gun Parts sells new 8 rd and 15 rd Gevarm mags that will fit both A series and E series guns. I was very happy to see that someone understood that the E series (takedown) guns use a mag with a wider nose and those 20 round factory mags will not fit an A series gun, because they have the wide nose. The A series guns will only accept the 8 round mags with the narrow nose.
So WGP's new mags have the narrow nose and will fit either series. That is the good news. Sadly though, I tried 2 of the 15 rounders and neither would work...at all. As in a dismal failure. Jams and stovepipes. Has anyone tried either the 8 or the 15 rounders and had any luck with them? I've been hoping they'd improve them. The mags are made by Triple K in California. |

Gevarm Safety
Actually they have the most solid fool proof safety made....
Pull the bolt back slightly more than need to cook it & push the knob (handle) in.. = a solid dead bolt. Wanna sell it.? |
And not for sale yet...??
|
Still have & wanna sell it..Ken here from west of Edmonton
