Polished off what was left of a couple bottles over the holidays so I need a new bottle. Any suggestions for single malts in the $80 range?

Some of the scotch's I've had:

Glenlivet 12, 15?
Glenfinnich 12
Glenfarclas 17, 35
Bruichladdich many variations
Laphroaigh Quarter cask
Bowmore
Oban
Craggenmore 20

I've been enjoying the Glenfiddich 15yr and The Dalmore 12yr. Both are under $80 and worth a try. IMO

I'd give a Macallan a try.

X2 , 105 cask strength if you can find it.

McCallan 15
Scapa 16

Haven't had the 105 but have had other Macallan offerings. Anyone had the Macallan 1824 Amber?

Have had the Glenfiddich 15 too. I've never had any Dalmore stuff....

How do you enjoy your scotch?

The Scapa is intriguing....I'm going to see what my local stores have in stock tomorrow.

Depends on the scotch sometimes two rocks or neat.

Working on a bottle of Laphroaigh Quarter Cask as we speak. Love this stuff, just the right amount of peat for me.

Might be a bit on the smokey side for you, but if you're up for trying something new, Ardbeg 10 yr is pretty much my favourite, right now. Usually around $60/bottle, I think.

I'm just thankful you aren't mixing it. One or two cubes of ice in a heavy bottomed tumbler.

I like a smokey scotch.

Mixing? WTF? Who does that?

A blended scotch have at'er. A single malt? I WILL slap you. :snapoutofit:

I do need a new scotch glass too.

12yr is a little less than that but it's fantastic sherry cask finish.
15yr is around that price point
18yr is just over $100 but it's unreal, omoroso sherry cask finish

There are so many.... You are in Calgary... drive down to Willow Park liquor and find Dave (the scotch Dave, not the beer Dave), he usually has a couple bottles open for tasting.

Since travelling to Scotland on a family holiday a few years ago, I have been sampling many of the Islay offerings and got a real nice one for Christmas I had yet to try, Ardbeg, thing of beauty. The other Islay I have been consuming is Caol Ila, Kull ila is how you say it, both have a hint of peat, but not the full dose of peat you find in Laphroig. Ardbeg is $75 and Ila is $81 at the liquor store on 123 St and 105 Ave. FS

Talisker 10 year and Balvenie double wood are two of my favorites!

You can get a Glenlivit 18 in your neck of the woods at the Superstore Liquor for right around $80. They seem to have good deals whenever I stop in. You have to ask for it though as they keep it in the back.

Laguvalin 16 year! My favourite scotch to date! Smokey, peaty and smells of leather... what more could one want?

Was just in a liquor store this morning, didn't find anything of interest. The search continues...

As suggested earlier in this thread by Juggernaut, if you want to diversify your scotch portfolio - Willow Park is the store you need to visit.

There isn't another store collection in Canada which can surpass the selection of Willow Park.

If you enjoy a nice heavily peated scotch I would suggest checking out Compass Box's Peat Monster . It is a blended scotch and is best over the rocks as it is sharp young flavor but is one of my favorites. As long as you are not a "Single Malt Snob" I think you may enjoy it as well.

Try Cardhu. Best single malt I've had to date and it's right in your price range

Oh, so many whiskies, so little time......in the $80 to $100 range you have some giants you can try. In no particular order of preference:

Lagavullin 16 yr
Glenmorangie Nectar D'or (sweet, finished in an ice wine cask, dessert scotch)
Highland Park 18 yr (outstanding!)
Aberlour 18 (heavy toffee and caramel notes, one of my favorites)
Oban.....enough said
Balvenie Signature
Coal Ila 18 yr (amazing stuff, I actually think its nicer than the Lagavullin)
Scapa 16.....very lovely stuff
Cardu. Always a winner
Bowmore Mariner 15, if you can find it. This might be the top of my list if I was being partial....

All of the above are in my cabinet, and they are all outstanding in their own way. It really depends on what you like, peaty smokey, beeswax and heather, caramel and toffee......I think I have to go have a dram now! Goodness, I love whisky!

Ummmmm I'd put Chateau Louis up against them any day

maybe this is why I cant seem to grow any body hair / appear manly. I have the man factor of a wet seal

I will try to get down to Willow Park at some point. Thanks for the heads up. Kensington Wine Market has a fair selection of single malts as does Crowfoot Co-op so for now I will be heading there in my quest.

The Dalmore 12 is nice
Really enjoy Balvenie Private reserve, but havent seen it in a while

I got a bottle minus a taste, got a bottle you want to trade for it?
