Strange hobby or pastime?

So I am interested in a number of different hobbies. Some are traditional others not so much. Right now I am in the process of setting up a pottery club which will start in about a month. I currently get clay and glazes from Plainsman's Pottery in Edmonton. I would very much like to be able to source and refine local clay to use and will start prospecting clay this spring. I am also interested in using natural sources of feldspar, shale, limestone and granite which can be further refined into glazes to cover the pottery. What's your odd pastime?

My Hobby is Christmas decorating. I start getting ready now for 2014 season. I do a musical light show at home & singers from around the world send me music for my show. Kinda a cool.

Dragonflies. Catch them, identify them, release them (most of the time), photograph them.

Pull the wings off flies and light a fireball of hairspray at them. Grandma got me into it. In the winter when there are no flies I make figurines from lobster shells.

Ya.... That has serial killer written all over it....lol. Peoples individual hobbies really interest me.... You can tell alot about someones nature/charactor by the unique hobbies they pursue.

Scottmisfits 02-01-2014 08:58 PM

I race radio controlled cars. I ran RC rock crawling trucks for some time too.

pinelakeperch 02-01-2014 08:59 PM

Coin collecting. I wouldn't call it strange, perhaps slightly less common. I also have a penchant for Swedish automobiles (Saab and Volvo).

Tox 02-01-2014 09:02 PM

Not really strange but I build steel ornaments in my spare time. And recently, raise goats.

I go online and see how many people I can disagree with.:scared0018:

I hope you're gentle with them :scared0015:

That's not unusual. Half the guys on here have that hobby.

Redfrog 02-01-2014 09:53 PM

Out here in Bodo they call it a "grow" .:bad_boys_20:

brslk 02-01-2014 09:57 PM

I drink.

Steven Noel 02-01-2014 09:57 PM

Besides from all my outdoor passions, I write. My major is biological sciences, but my minor is creative writing. I enjoy writing poetry, fiction and non-fiction is my spare time.

trooper 02-01-2014 09:57 PM

I tie flies.. (pretty tricky getting the little critters to hold still so that I can tie their little legs together....):scared0018:

I do too, but usually miss, and hit them square between the eyes. lol.

No hobbies anymore. Perhaps one day I will get back to doing something.

Sad ^, but true.

Most times I wish they'd all just bugger off.

I restore chainsaws. Here's my latest.

I also enjoy vegetable gardening. I'm developing a hearty Alberta tomato.

I spend these dreary months of winter following Christmas getting ready for open water fishing, camping and hunting season (s). Procuring and upgrading and replacing items that others would wait until later to do.
Also planning and organizing such trips well in advance.

Might be more of an obsession than anything else but it gets me through these long boring winter months.

TreeGuy 02-02-2014 01:48 AM

Hobbies???

I have two children and a wife that Hockey Calgary seems to own. It'll be a happy day when that organization is in the rear view mirror.

Until then......'nother vote for drinking. :D

redneckricer 02-02-2014 02:28 AM

I collect different coasters from all the bars I go to, pin them on the wall kinda like trophies

I had a friend who lived in Thailand who did a similar thing with toothbrushes from all the hookers he would get.

averagejoe 02-02-2014 03:16 AM

I collect locks. Now I mainly go for Best brand logo padlocks but I have been getting into antique vault combination locks and time locks as of late.

Some of the ones from late 1800s or early 1900s are works of art.

catnthehat 02-02-2014 06:47 AM

I hand load and shoot obsolete cartridges and firearms .
I end up quite often using rudimentary hand tools or vintage hand tools.
It's lots of fun and they old guns can actually surprise a guy sometimes with their accuracy.:)
I also collect bait casting and level wind reels, it's more of an accumulation however!:)
