R.I.P. Wholesale Sports

Chainwide closures, staff given notice, it's the end of an era. Apparently liquidation begins in the next few days.

Sad day for Albertans and all Western Canadians that bought their first piece of hunting or fishing gear here.

Stinky Buffalo 09-14-2017 12:50 PM

Yikes! Where did you hear about this?

Was looking at their FaceBook page, someone was asking about the Winnipeg store closing...

lmtada 09-14-2017 12:52 PM

Noooooo!

No recent news findable.

Is there a link for this news?

7mmremmag 09-14-2017 12:54 PM

Only thing I can find is they closed their Regina store last year.

YYC338 09-14-2017 12:58 PM

A lot of good memories from that place over the years. In Calgary, previous incarnations such as Barrotto's, Rushell's and Frency's come to mind.

jcrayford 09-14-2017 12:58 PM

Joins and opens with that post? And no one else seems to be able to find additional supporting information?

I'll have to make a trip to my closest Wholesale to see for myself.

J.

trogdortheburninator 09-14-2017 01:06 PM

Call each location and you will get the "we're closed" message, or better yet talk to one of the 800+ employees and they'll verify it has been closed with their ROE's.

Sad times for them

bobtodrick 09-14-2017 01:06 PM

Just called Edmonton North...not true at all.
So we got ourselves a troll.

Newellknik 09-14-2017 01:07 PM

I do believe !

This is a fact jack ...
If not why are they closed in Calgary ...
They come they go !
I can't believe I'm sYing this
Thank a God for Canadian Tire .

Hmmmm.... Interesting...

67ZL1 09-14-2017 01:11 PM

Grande Prairie as of now is closed...

calgarygringo 09-14-2017 01:11 PM

I found a Reddit post similar but nothing else other than other stores. Maybe a troll but wouldnt surprise me. I would think UFA would try to sell it off which I have not noticed publicly. Stay tuned I guess.

Calgary store phone says we are closed, leave a message.
Customer service line says we cannot answer your call at this time, leave a message.

calgarygringo 09-14-2017 01:14 PM

I just called Calgary and no answer after a pile of rings. Answer machine kicked in and said store was closed then store hours so cant confirm by phone.

FCLightning 09-14-2017 01:17 PM

Well, Edmonton South, Saskatoon and Lethbridge also have the "store is currently closed" phone message - lunch hour is over so I guess no sense in dialing any more of them. Boss says get to work :)

Mavrick 09-14-2017 01:17 PM

Just came from the Edmonton South one. Sign said, closed today to prepare for store closing sale. Windows where covered in white paper.

SamSteele 09-14-2017 01:21 PM

That sucks. I just bought a bunch of stuff there last weekend!

lund17 09-14-2017 01:22 PM

I was in the Edmonton south store last night and every look like busy as usually.

Husty 09-14-2017 01:25 PM

Can confirm that the Lethbridge Wholesale Sports was shutdown today to prepare for a closing day sale. Pretty sad as there are few other good options in Lethbridge for firearms. Bet Marksman and Section 8 are jumping up and down over this news.

Well, that's sad...

On the bright side, this would be the best time of year to clear out inventory.

Selkirk 09-14-2017 01:27 PM

Is this a company wide closing ... or are they just 'pruning the tree' ?

Best we all just sit back, and wait for an Official Announcement.

Anyone know when the liquidation sale starts? The wife said if its being liquidated by a 3rd party the deals will be slim to none.

MoFugger21 09-14-2017 01:29 PM

Guess I better quickly find a use for the $69 I have left on a gift card....

Dweb 09-14-2017 01:30 PM

Wonder if they will still honour gift cards?

Well damn. I'd called a manager's (whose a friend of mine) direct line. He told me not to worry.
Just called their main line...and you're right...they are not answering.
