PAL Renewal Time - WOW
 

Well it takes a lot to impress this old guy these day's, my PAL expires in Sept so I thought I better get at it given that there are lot's of threads about it taking 4 - 6 months or more.

Mar 1 - Send via Canada Post Snail Mail
Mar 6 - Received and given Initial approval
Mar 15 - Credit Card charged renewal fee
Mar 23 - PAL issued and mailed - post marked Mar 24
Mar 28 - In my hand this morning.

Fastest turn around time in history for me:

In 2024 it took 27 days
In 2019 it took 94 days
In 2014 it took 108 days

Either they are getting more efficient or they are just taking pity on us old guy's, I'm impressed :sHa_shakeshout:

You were simply one of the lucky ones, the GF just got hers a short time ago, and it took 11 months. Mine has varied from 2 weeks, to 5-1/2 months , the last renewals were 5-1/2 months, and 4 months with a call to the CFO.

Ours was a month process too.
So happy with that.

Mine took about 3 or 4 weeks. Couldn't believe it.

Submitted mine feb 7... still waiting

Sent mine last year, December 20, and received the new card January 29th this year. They made changes on the design and it’s more like a driver’s license.

Just two weeks for me. The RCMP sent me a reminder to renew and I did it online. Took 5min to fill everything out.

Sitting at 7 months now. Also, a heads up, if you are on a phone, and click the email address on the contact page on the Alberta CFO’s website, it puts the email address in with a “.” at the end. “…. .ab.ca.” You have to get rid of the last period for it to go through.

Just got mine back today
 

I just got mine back today. It was less than 1 month. Pretty pleased. I did it online if that helps anyone considering to mail it or do it digitally.

My son’s electronic renewal took 9 months and a phone call to the ABCFO. (PAL)
My renewal took nearly 7 months after an electronic submission (RPAL and instructor) also emailed my range membership once I had an application/transaction number.

Catnthehat’s was over 5 months on an electronic renewal and he had to call the ABCFO to kick things along.

Elkhunter11 had a long wait too on his renewal and had to jumps start things with a phone call.


The thing here is there’s bureaucrats jacking gun owners around because the government lets them, if you get a bureaucrat processing your application who has not got an axe to grind with gun owners, boom, you get a quick turn around. If you get a gun hating waste of DNA handling your application it just drags on and on….

The big question, is what are the people that used to process restricted transfers doing? The handgun ban should have freed up people to process PALs.

My RPAL renewal took 2 months

So my rPAL expires on my birthday almost exactly one year from now. I’m in Alberta. Reading all of the horror stories about renewal times and the associated headaches involved in the process, I have a question.

Should I start the process of renewing now, with a year to expiry? Should I wait? What’s the minimum time that I should wait to start?

It sure wouldn’t hurt to do it now. I usually wait till I have 6 months left.

Short turn around for me, sent in April 9th, received new license yesterday in the mail, two weeks, online application, to be honest, i am very impressed.

I apply 364 days before expiry, it doesn't change the expiry date of your new PAL

Yeah, that’s a good idea. My last renewal took 6 weeks from start to reception of my new card. I’m leaning towards getting it started soon.

My youngest son had forgotten to send in his renewal before his had expired. I was worried it would get hung up but he had his new one within a month

Why don't they have a 10 year licence ? The RCMP wheel is supposed to be spinning 24 hours a day to flag you if you have had a criminal charge , illegal use of firearm etc. If they want their chunk of hide dollar wise.. which of course they do , just double the cost of new licence or re newal fee for 10 year term. Save the legal gun owner the hassle and tax payer millions and skid a bunch of the dog humpers down East that dilly dally with the paper work.

Why don't they just let everyone buy firearms unless you have a reason to be forbidden?

Because they want the revenue and their ********s.
