Ice fishing for Prussian Carp
I recently discovered that an oxbow lake on our property is full of Prussian carp when it overflowed into the pasture with Spring run off. I know nothing short of poisoning or netting will eradicate them so I'm thinking of fishing for them with my young nephews.
Has anyone tried fishing for them? I can't imagine they'd be too tough to catch with just small baited hooks and maybe spring bobbers for light bites. Sent from my SM-G981W using Tapatalk |

Have had some success with maggots and small tungsten jigs or small spoons through the ice.

You can use blood worm imitations. Every time I have caught on so far it has been on a blood worm 90% of the time. Tip with a maggot in the winter to make it more attractive.

If you bluestone your pond for algae control, it generally annihilates the fish. Copper sulfate, buy at UFA/COOP... then stock with trout at a later date/
Or you could ask your local irrigation district for some magnicide. That's what they mass annihilate/kill off the pike and walleye and whitefish in the canals, so that we dont have to have a limit in the big lakes. |
Someone mentioned bread dough and a small hook in the Blood Indian reservoir thread.

Have at er, I wonder if they'll ever make it to a daily limit,I remember as a kid running through the grass and the ling cod were a garbage fish, people through out. We just enjoyed catching them two at a time, felt like a whale to us kids and putting them back in the lake.

I understand clearly the problem, kill them all. Pandoras box has been opened, now we need to figure out how to fix this. The asian carp decimated waterbodies in the states, now someone made a business to ship the buggers to market.
