Need help for my dad

Greetings from Idaho.

I am on here hoping to get some advice for my dad. He shot the nicest bull of his hunting career this last season, a very nice 6 point. He decided to have it European mounted and took it to a place that uses the bug method.

He got them back, only to find they made a mistake. The owner of the business had someone inexperienced help him because he was busy. This person took the horns out of the bleaching solution and turned them upside down to dry. The bleach ran down the horns. They then attempted to fix it by staining the bleached parts, which made it look worse.

If anyone has any tips on how to:

1. Get the staining solution off
2. Restore them once it's removed

I would appreciate any/all help. I am absolutely sick about this for him; he is an amazing hunter and sportsman and has waited his whole life for a bull like this one.

Thank you.

Hey Buddy....no problem and tell the Ol' man to relax

When we stip caribou horns up here and chuck em' in the lake they come out ivory white and then they are died back to their darker colour.

Give a shout to Greg Robertson at:

He'll be able to hook you up with what to dye it with.....AWESOME guy.

If they used potassium permanganate to dye it im afaid its pretty permenant, but you could have them maybe darken the whole thing a little to blend it all together.

if you can get the dye off just just rub the antlers with the same kind of bark the elk used to restore colour! (inner bark)
