Quality fibreglass rods.
I am going to order a high end glass rod, from epic rods, as I was given a gift card, a while back, for helping out a block out who was broke down, in southland NZ
most likely 8,6 6 wt or 8 foot four, went looking for info about Epic glass rods, seams quite a few fishman, like to use an old glass rod. At least once in a while. Got me wondering, how many on here, still fish with a moderate action glass rod, over the high performance carbon fibre rods, |
I still use a glass 8 weight one for Pike and wallleye in the river up here:)

I built the epic 8ft 4wt. Great rod!

I have a few older glass rods that I occasionally pull out to fish, like an old Sage, Lamiglass, few Fenwicks.
Typically reserve these for streams/rivers with a more delicate presentation. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
I have a few old glass rods with a parabolic action that are "sentimental" and use them every once in a while. All my new gear is certainly more responsive and easier to cast - but it just isn't the same.

I have seen an Epic glass rod. It was an 8', 5 wt. Very pretty.
I have a 6' 9" Echo 3 wt. glass rod. Certainly NOT what I would call "moderate action". A real wet noodle, but fun for catching small fish. I consider my Winston GVX 3 wt. to be a moderate action. Very smooth casting. Just nice. |
I love all types and eras of glass. The Epics are nice rods, I have a 686 that I love for fishing Bass and hopper/dropper rigs, also a 476 I still need to build up.

My go to rod is a 6'6" prototype peiroway fiberglass composite 2 wt
Most of the new glass rods will impress you if you grew up casting some of those chepo china models. That being said every rod is different I don't care for either redingtons butter stick as it's just that made out of butter . I didn't care much for echos river glass but their bad ass glass rod is awesome. Blue halo and epic are both great manufacturers and enjoyed casting their rods. Cast a few different types see what you like. |
