1940 Rifle Shotgun Registration

Found a old slip of paper in some of my Dads old stuff today,it was all torn and missing a piece.
It is a registration slip for my grandfathers rifles and shotguns from
12/9/40.
The serial numbers, make and caliber of guns are listed, name and address and signed by my grandfather and the RCMP Officer.
Also there is a line that asks racial origin.
Just thought this was weird as I never heard of the registration that far back.
Anyone ever here or know of this.
Wonder if my granddad got in some trouble back then.

In 41 there was a ban placed on 'Orientals ' owning firearms. Pistol registration started back in 1912 or 13 and was used as a measure to restrict immigrants from possessing them.

I have scans of two registration certs from the 40's that I found in the butt stocks of old rifles.

They were both from Winchester 54's , one 270 and one 30-06.

Prior to World War One Canada sponsored many rifle clubs. My grandfather was a member of the Lippentot Rifle Club. They were issued 303 Ross rifles and an allotment of ammunition each year. When the war started these rifles were recalled to arm the troops.

My , how their attitude has changed.
