Pike Fishing Near Calgary

Can anyone recommend any good places to fish for Pike about an hour outside of Calgary. I went to Badger Reservior in Lomond which is about 2-2 1/2 hours away last week and just not looking to travel that far again.
Thanks,
Trundle

you must have taken the long way around! There are Pike in Crawling valley, or PCR or even in Chestemere

I have no boat so have to fish from the shore, are the above places good for shore fishing?
Thanks again,
Trundle

dont know about Chestermere, but CVR and PCR can both be fished from shore.

What is PCR short for?
Thanks

Pine Coulee Reservoir, its south near Stavely, millions of little C and R walleye, and some good sized pike that sometimes eat the walleye right off your hook, always fun :sHa_shakeshout:

FWIW I caught my first pike tonight at Langdon Resevoir, just down 22X east.

I got 8 takes in 3 hours and my partner got 2. 1st 2 were 22-24", 3 didn't make the beach, one at 10" or so and the rest at 18-20'.

Good evening.

Chestermere has lots

You might try that walking path from Calgary to Chestermere. There are lots of pike in the lake and they had to come from somewhere. I've seen people tolling in the canal before.

Good luck.

#8 5 of diamonds worked the best for me and took 2 with a red and white. Partner tossed a perch pattern rapala. We shore fished the SE berm, try close to the weed beds.

Thanks.Might head there today if rain stays away.:thinking-006:

Toss on a jacket and go, the forecast is for 7 days of rain, you may have to wait a while if you don't:(

fishing in NE calgary

Anyone know of good shore fishing spots in or around NE Calgary? About 30mins - hours away?

dubberz19 04-02-2015 03:08 PM

Also heard smelts are getting hit hard. Any truth to this?

calgarygringo 04-02-2015 03:16 PM

Yup....

They are hitting them hard. Get out the regs and a map and start looking for places open all year and ones that are on the map but not mentioned. There are several obvious ones south and a few just north of Calgary if you do a little research.

Some excellent pike fishing from shore at Crawling Valley. You're looking at a little longer than an hour of a drive, though.

x2 yep, you can still have the line wet when the other lakes are closed :)
smelts work great for pike, good to use when you feel lazy and you just toss it in and wait

CVR is closed until May 8th -- per the regs

dubberz19 04-03-2015 11:47 AM

Thanks for the feedback. What lures are you guys using?

I meant in general, but good point!

pinelakeperch 04-03-2015 12:08 PM

Has anyone been to PCR recently? I'm thinking of going next week. Any success near the bridge?

calgarygringo 04-03-2015 12:40 PM

I'll pass, but thanks:) I thought it closed mid-April. I'd have checked before heading out there.

Chestermere is awesome, caught over 100 pike there within a few trips this summer. Just trolling a Mepps cyclops.
