"Super moon" tonite....

Super moon tonite, the nite the moon is the closest to earth. So cloudy here, our chances are pretty slim of seeing it.

Badgerbadger 06-22-2013 05:52 PM

It'll only be about 3% larger than the regular moon. Same size as last night, and earlier this week (for all intents and purposes). It's not like it'll take up half the sky or anything.

Big Daddy Badger 06-22-2013 09:37 PM

I think that its been called off due to rain....:scared:

Bushmaster 06-22-2013 09:47 PM

Actually cleared off here and its quite the sight.

just_dave 06-22-2013 09:55 PM

Big bright moon here. Nice and sharp looking too.

Gust 06-22-2013 10:02 PM

as it rose it took up half the sky

Us shorter folk would have to use a step-stool, probably.

see, that's why it seemed smaller to you, it's because you are further away from it. If you were taller it would take up half the sky.

Two moons are way better than one, but, two staircases are not, I repeat, two staircases are not.

5:25am or thereabouts 6 hours for full blast THREE QUARTERS OF THE SKY I just heared.

My Summer resolution is to add more redneck varnaculiar to my posts to give them a glossier lookin's.

toomanyhobbies 06-22-2013 11:58 PM

Given the moon is full around 5:40 Sunday morning, then Sunday night's view should be nearly as good. The most the moon changes in apparent size is +/- 7%, so the size variation isn't really noticeable unless you have something to compare it with.

Enjoy the view if you can ...it's beautiful and clear here tonight.

It's so big that it's gonna displace all the floodwater and hopefully the family members holed up in my home too.

I managed to sweet talk my way into a room at an already full Jasper Park Lodge. It's totally clear here, and I got to watch that beauty rise over the lake with a glass of whiskey and a nice cigar. Life's good.

Enjoy :happy0034:

Tomorrow night, if conditions are good, I'm going to set up the camera and tripod, and see what I can do.

Wish me luck,

Mac
