Crossbow bolt broadheads
 

No longer 21 and bullet proof.Shoulder is done.Have got my eye on a Excalibur Assassin 420 TD.Need some advice on bolt selection and broad heads.Was a big fan of slick trick fixed blades when I hunted with compound in the past.please help

170 grs and you can put your fist through the offside of a pass-through. Blood trail is awesome.

The 420 is a new, and very fast bow.
Likely that fixed blades (regardless of selection) will "plane" or steer your arrows at those speeds.
I know they do with my 380 Matrix, and it is slower in comparison.

As for arrows, you will want the stiffest you can find.
Black Eagle Zombie Slayers are the choice of most of the dedicated Excalibur shooters for their faster bows.
They are what I use.
With a Luminok (for me) and an heavy front brass insert to balance.
You will want to keep the overall weight (arrow & broadhead combined) right around 400 grains for optimal performance.

There are many mechanical broadheads around that will do the job.
That said, I have been much MORE than satisfied with NAP 125 grain Spitfires.
These fly pretty much exactly the same as 125 grain field points, and I have (commonly) run them to 100 yards to prove just that.

xbow broad heads
 

I have used 125 thunderheads to take 3 bull elk all worked great with great blood trail. I agree with above on getting a stiff arrow shaft to attach them too then practice. I limit my range to 30 yds even with the xbow. I took an elk with my compound bow when I could still use one and also used a fixed broad head.Only problem I ever had with any type was one of the fold out type that broke off on the narrow piece of metal when it hit a rib. One and only time I ever tried one of those.Do not remember the brand name. That said many people swear by them. my 2 cents.

Thanks for your replies. Not,the added info on excalibur forum is a great addition. Will be doing my research in the next month then completing purchases in early April. Can't wait to get started.

Bolt Cutters
 

I use or have been using the 150gr Excalibur Bolt Cutters (made by Innerloc Broadheads) with all my Excalibur crossbows. Currently shooting the Matrix 355.
I've never experienced 'plane' but that could be because of the slower FPS of my bolts.
These broadheads charge thru deer no problem. I'm waiting on elk this fall, I hope.
I like the heavy 150gr. Perhaps heavier would be better?

BTW- Good choice in crossbow, simple 1 string recurve!
