Building my own arrows
What do I need to take into consideration before building my own arrows?
Jig: Bitzenburger ( straight or right helical?) arrow square / straightness tester Recommended tools? |
+1 for the bitzenburger jig
I'm currently shooting a 4 fletch, left helical for my hunting rig. When bare-shaft tuning, my bow puts a slight left rotation on the arrow (right handed bow). Might be splitting hairs here but if you're going through the effort to build your own arrows, ya may as well take every gain you can get. |
Thanks. I get a slight right turn on my bareshaft.

Nothing wrong with a Bitzenberger but I prefer the Arizona EZ Fletch. Arrow saw......if you cut arrows properly you don't need an arrow squaring device. If your going to have a pro shop cut your arrows you might as well ask them to square them also. Arrow spinner (for broadheads).....you can devise one from what you have in your kitchen cupboard.......2 mugs will do just as good.
Epoxy.........for your inserts........don't get the quick cure stuff. Quick cures are brittle and the insert/arrow bonding will break. Glues. Gorilla super glue, Loctite Ultra Gel Control, Bohning Platinum Fletch Tite... |
