Jasper and onto Vancouver
Evening Everyone,
I am heading to Jasper this coming week. I got a fly fishing setup for Christmas and im hoping to get some good use out of it. I've been scouring the site for information as far as where to fish. I am with a group of people who aren't really into fishing so I'm hoping to find a spot that's close to town and perhaps just off the highway. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. So far it's sounding like Miette could be the spot to go, any particular area you would recommend? Also after I'm in Jasper I'm heading down to Vancouver. With my wife and young daughter. We will be making many pit stops along the way so if anyone knows of a good spot to stop to get a quick line in on our way down any suggestions on that would be appreciated as well! Thanks so much |
A few decent spots with good access:
The Athabasca where the Maligne flows into it or where the Miette flows in. The Athabasca at Old Fort Point. All are within 5-15min drive from Jasper. Good luck and check the regs to make sure. |
Thanks! Any specific flies you would recommend for this time of year?

There's a roadside turnout apprx 10 min outside of Jasper(leaving) we call sheep'ss corner... fished there many years and had great luck catching Rocky Mountain Whites and the odd Bull Trout... usually the faithful coachman was the go to fly

Just be aware you need a park fishing licence . Finding the stocked ponds will be your best goto spots . Most streams are just mountain run off and just don't hold fish . Rivers will be high and fast this time of year . Have fun !
