Ice Fishing Flies
 

Started using micro leeches last year when ice fishing for trout and they worked very well. I usually fish 12-15 ft so I fish them off a dropper rig. Saw a pattern on my buddies youtube channel so tied some of them up and going to give them a try. Had a chance to try them for about an hour a few days ago, got a couple hits but nothing hooked up. Pick of micro leeches.

Have you tried a balanced leech? They work great as well.

Yes,I tie most of the balanced leeches with simi seal. Leeches are my go to summer and winter. Have micro leeches, floating leeches, snake leech, balanced leech, conehead leech

I use size 8 balanced leeches or wooly buggers. 5# fluorocarbon. No other weight or bait on line.

For winter flies, do you dead stick them under a tip up/jawjacker or do you actively jig them?

I fish in a shack with two lines, both get jigged once in a while. One near bottom, one about 3-4 ft up until I see where most of the hits come from.

So give them a little life once in a while and then be patient!

Try a different hook or bend it, they need to sit horizontal like a balanced leach.
