North Central Bears (Updates)

Hey Guys
Thought we should copy the south and post about sightings, tracks and such from Nordegg north. General area, sign etc.. would all be helpful as we chase some bruins this spring! Especially with this wacky weather.

Mudder Man 04-18-2012 10:45 AM

Looking to head out west of Rocky next week to have a check. Will update the forum then. Anyone been seeing anything in the west country yet?

mm

Gumbi 04-18-2012 02:05 PM

ill be out rocky to nordegg these week.

Sooner 04-18-2012 02:33 PM

I should be out checking on things in 516(North of Calling lake) this weekend. Going to try out dads new toy, 05, 6 wheel argo. I will post any sightings, tracks, snow levels etc for the bear hunters that go up there.

bearbuster 04-18-2012 02:46 PM

Im there daily. Snow is fading fast, and Saw first track today. Heard of one bear shot North of Rocky over bait last weekend. no sightings in Nordegg yet, but the weather forecast is good

bearbuster 04-18-2012 02:51 PM

Timesink, clean out your PM's

timsesink 04-18-2012 02:54 PM

Just did, thanx!

timsesink 04-18-2012 02:59 PM

I was just chatting with a Swan Hill guys for the last pit and they're still at 1ft+ of snow, no tracks or any sightings yet. Heard of one taken by Rocky but that's probably sheer luck at this point IMHO.

Looks like an awesome upcoming weekend for melting snow up here!

330 bears

Spent a few days scouting wmu 330 no signs of bears yet. Most of the snow is gone. I even started wondering if there where any bears in this wmu.
Some grasses a starting to crop up Seen a few wolf tracks and a lot of deer

waterhaulerhunter 04-22-2012 10:36 PM

Went out NW of Drayton Valley for a drive today and to set the baits. A few tracks in the snow nothing major though. Snow is almost gone and the grass is just slightly poking through. Going to head out there again next sunday!

Sooner 04-22-2012 10:49 PM

Spent saturday trying out dads newer argo in wmu 516. Out and about for 5 hrs. Up to 9 inches of snow still hanging around on the shady side of hills & cutlines. Didnt see any bears but did see one set of tracks. Swampy areas have about 4 inches of water on top of the frozen ground. Lakes & ponds still frozen. Not much for green grass yet.

Redneck Renagade 04-23-2012 08:22 AM

Nothing around peers yet. We spent the better part of Sunday scouting and didn't even see hide nor poop. Not much snow left and nothing is greening up yet:angry3:

hwy_6363 04-23-2012 11:56 AM

Got my baits set yesterday an hour north of Edmonton. No sign to speak of, there was still a bit of snow in the trees but the grass is starting to green up a tiny bit in the exposed areas. Will check the baits later this week, hopefully the effort pays off.

Did you north of peers or south? I have never seen many bears around that area

Just a little ways north. We seen a bunch of sign when we were hunting last year

I-R-Huntin 04-23-2012 04:19 PM

We had 1 out of 4 baits hit out Rocky way , bear only stayed around for a half hour. This is two weeks earlier than last year!!!:sHa_shakeshout:

Check baits today, in 337 still no hits

Pilsner Man 04-25-2012 07:38 AM

I saw a small black bear south of ft Assiniboin yesterday. My first one of the year.

archercurt 04-25-2012 08:20 AM

Was out by nordegg on Sunday and seen 2 sets of tracks one of which was rather large to say the least!

Duster 04-25-2012 04:36 PM

I got 5 different bears on my bait in 330 gonna take one down this weekend

hwy_6363 04-26-2012 10:35 AM

I set my baits in 348 last Sunday. I am going to check on them tomorrow night and see if they've been hit.
The weather is supposed to be rainy and cooler for the next few days. What do the bears generally do when the weather is bad? I would say they'd stay dry and not be out browsing. But saying that, I have seen a few bears out and about in bad weather.
Thoughts?
