Well here goes nothing. My partners bailed on me and I have a bull moose tag to fill in wmu414. If anyone is interested. I can’t go by myself as there is no cell service if I get hurt. I’m going from oct 23-26. Pm me if interested. Willing to split meat 50/50

I have done a lot of hunting by myself, and a lot of it was before cell phones. If you are careful it isn't that big a deal, and 35 Whelen is right, a satellite phone rental or spot unit will fix the communication issues.

All that said, I can say from experience, shooting a moose by yourself is a pot load of work, it is enough work even with two guys. At my age now, no way would I shoot a moose if I was alone. Second thing is, it is way more enjoyable to be out hunting with someone else. My brother and I just got back from Africa, originally I was going to be going alone because my original partner dropped out. It was WAY more fun having my brother along than it would have been on my own.

Long way of saying, hope you manage to hook up with someone, even just for the company.

I could go by my self in hopes of getting one close to the road. But I know I would have a better chance getting one deeper in the bush as I had trail cams out for a month. So I know where the moose are just don’t think i could pack one out by myself.

Hunting, harvesting and packing out a large animal solo is one of the best challenges and rewarding experiences a hunter could put themselves through.

If I was OP I would like others mentioned invest in a SAT phone or SPOT and do it solo... show his buddies he didn't need them all along.

I did the buffalo hunt solo because my buddy bailed last minute

I got one, was lots of work. But if I can do that solo I can do anything

Don’t wander into bad spots. Makes sure that first shot counts. Have to just be more selective

Gotta consider the presence of the non existent grizzlies there, as well. Be a bummer to come back to your animal and have a welcoming committee. I'd volunteer, but my back ain't up to it. :D

When I was 30 I thought like you do and did that. We also packed moose out on our backs for seven or eight miles. By the time I hit 50, I had got a whole bunch smarter, it is true that the longer you live the smarter you get! No partners, or can't get a quad near it, moose gets to live. :sHa_sarcasticlol:

I now know that hunting moose in a group is way better than alone, and since Safeway isn't about to run out of meat any time soon, I am okay with passing up a moose in a bad place.

Agreed. Have packed out a couple moose and few elk by myself and when the last load hits the truck theres no more rewarding feeling. Helps to think of too when your mind starts telling you the pack in for sheep is tough, lol.

Guess I'm a bit of a head shaker here. A moose is a huge undertaking to pack out of the bush by yourself and in that WMU, the longer the carcass stays in the woods, the more like a Grizzly is likely to find it. There are Grizzlies there and this time of the year, they're looking for gut piles and any thing else edible. Gonna argue with a bear, better to have some else with you.

I agree. The grizzlies are a mild concern, hence the reason I don’t want to venture to far from the truck by myself.
