Nice Surprise first for my kid today!
Well, havent seen any real hunting related pics pop up lately, so just figured I'd share a couple of my sons first badger.....we were out shooting gophers, and saw the badger about 150yds away, but since he was just shooting a peep sight .22 we decided to close the distance (he's 6 and still learning to a degree, he's deadly on gophers out to about 30-40yds, but 150yd shot is way beyond what he can capably shoot). We got to around 50yds away and were crouched behind a tuft of grass, and the badger closed in to somewhere around 30-35yds and I told him to make sure he shot it in the head.....one shot later and the badger was doing the head shot flop, lol. He was pretty pumped, and if it had been a nicer one, I probably would have mounted it for him, but it was a smaller one, so he can wait till he gets a better one, lol.

Couriuos?
How many here have shot a badger? I have never even seen 1 in the wild, maybe I am hunting the wrong areas.
Just asking because you may want to reconsider getting it mounted. Regardless I think it is awesome and a big congrats to your young fellow. |
Thanks for the comments everyone!
Brendan's dad, I will usually shoot a couple a year in our area if I spend a half decent amount of time shooting gophers. When I was younger and spent more time in the gopher fields around home , I'd get a handful each year (best day was 4 in about 3 hours, but I'm positive this was a family unit so to speak). this is an area within an hr of Edmonton. When I lived down in Lethbridge, if we dedicated ourselves and found areas holding lots of badgers then waited them out and did some calling and stuff, it was normal to shoot at least a couple everyday we went out for them. Spend enough time in gopher fields and your bound to cross paths with one. Thanks again everyone! |
Very cool! Congrats to you and your son.
I've actually never seen one myself. None on Vancouver Island where I grew up. |
Way to go!

Trophy Badger
Small Badger...NOT. That's a trophy Badger.
If you're not going to get a rug made, get the skull done! Flesh it and let the ants do the rest. Great pictures, better story, good on you dad! BW |
Nicely done!
Great pics too, nice job on positioning the badger. Last one I got was with a '91 F150's front and rear passenger tires. :D |
