Perch bait

I have always had good luck with maggots. A variety of baits can't hurt. corn, cheese, worms, minnows, mealworms, powerbaits, or even a ball of tinfoil will all work.

The absolute king is a Perch eye,, a Perch eye is the most durable and smelliest and best all round Perch bait hands down.. Only thing is you have to catch at least one Perch in order to use it....

Belly Strip

Next time you fillet a perch or walleye, when you cut the belly strip off BEFORE skinning the fillet, put it aside and freeze it. They are very hard to get a hook through, as it is perch / walleye skin, but also impossible to get off. The meat is thin, and usually white / silvery. Keep the piece small, and thin.

I usually eat the eyes (weird, I know)...never thought to share with the perch. Will have to try that this weekend!!

I was out at Cow lake and tried a variety of baits. I found the best to be pieces of cheese from the cheese-string sticks you can purchase at the grocery store!!! Darn fish were hitting every time I dropped the hook in.

I also caught a few using the glo-cheese scented marshmallows meant for trout. I found the smaller ones were hitting the cheese string and the larger perch were taking the glo-marshmallows!!

Yes

The Regs state "Parts of Game Fish. Only the skin, fins, eyes and dead eggs of game fish may be used as bait, provided these fish were lawfully caught by angling. Skin, fins, eyes and dead eggs of game fish may be used where the use of bait fish is prohibited, but cannot be used where bait bans are in effect. All game fish kept must be counted in the daily catch limit, including any fish from which parts are used for bait."
