Ram Powersnare Summer Storage
 

I'm just spending a couple hours bending all my springs back to the set position and re-threading anchor cables back onto them. Got me wondering how many of you guys just store them in the cocked position vs putting them in the relaxed position. I figured it would keep the springs stronger to relax them for 8 months of non-use but man it's a lot of work when you have a whole bunch.

I unload my powersnares at the end of the season.
It's work but that's what it takes to look after your investment.
Mine are all wolfmasters ...

Leave mine cocked. Have owned them since Bert first came out with them. Have just shy of 300 rams and have not noticed any loss of strength. Friend of mine bought some new ones last year and no difference in comparison. Made wooden boxes that hold 20 rams and store them in trap shed so they stay dry.

You are correct.
Cycling a spring has more effect on tension than keeping them compressed.

Springs usually loosen when they remain compressed for long periods of time.

A spring fully compressed for long periods of time would have the most effect on the "springiness" of the spring. The spring would eventually become shorter in its unstretched state, so the springiness would be reduced, less strength, softer.

One of my experiences is when I either forgot/couldn't find one RAM at the end of the season... (yes, I am bad).
It sat in the bush (loaded) for almost a year and when I found it ...it was broken just above the spring on one arm. This was a newer RAM which had only been used for one prior season.
I still have this broken RAM and will take some photos of it later today.

If anyone has a few brand new rams in plastic w label stapled on that states “Made in USA”, let me know. I’d like to buy a few of that run.
