How good is the Cabelas vacuum sealer vs the Costco Food saver? I had a similar machine to the Cabelas commercial machine and seemed to me that the pump was more strong, but isnt what it used to be. So I need a new one.

Is the Cabelas commercial machine worth the extra bucks vs the costco food saver?

I've been using costco vacuum sealer for 10+ years, previous generation machine. Do all my wild game butchering at home and some other stuff. No complains, works well for me.

We bought this exact unit about a year ago and have been very happy with it. Our freezer is full of vacuumed sealed items of all kinds even my herring fishing baits in winter. Keeps things fresh and saves things from getting freezer burns.

The nice thing is you can make your own bags from rolls, use factory bags, use ziplock bags with vacuum hole and use for sealers if you do canning with the canning attachment.
The biggest thing is the cost of the bags which can be fairly costly if you don't watch what you buy. Cabelas is not too bad if you can get them on sale but we usually get them at Costco as our per bag cost is about the lowest we find. There are some meat supply type places and a few others that sell them as well. Watch your thickness of the materials too as some are selling sub standard thin material advertised as a great deal.

Been using a foodsaver for years. Was very frustrating when you use the cut your own bags as you have to seal each bag twice. Suggest going on amazon and buying the bags already sealed on one end. Much quicker and barely shuts down due to overheating.

No contest--I have the exact Cabelas one and works great--foodsaver...you are getting what you pay for--good if used very sporadically. The Cabelas one is a workhorse

My parents got one of those Cabela's vacuum sealer last year. They used it twice and took it back as it was crap.

I started out with a Food Saver from Costco, it lasted a 2 - 3 years and than broke. Not bad I thought from the amount of usage. Than I upgraded to the Weston Vacuum Sealer and they are tough machine, takes a lot to overheat it. My element broke after 10 years and I was able to get parts in a week.

My sister has always used a Food Saver, she has gone threw a couple of machines in the last 15 years. She likes it as it is compact and stays on the counter all the time.

I have used my foodsaver quite often for 6 years now without issue. Maybe I am getting lucky.

Cabelas-the regular one or the commercial one ?

Have a food saver (Costco) just over 6 years now. Still performs great for my use. As mentioned watch out for the thin ml bags they are crap. I do not hunt so my use is limited to butcher bought and some store bought in quantity on sale. I will seal all kinds of stuff though and marinate as well. Buy some Costco 12 pack of muffins and shrink em down to mini size. HA HA learned a lesson there. No complaints yet. The price was right and freeze for a lot longer. Try to partial freeze the meat so as to not suck out the juices. Especially burgers

About 4 months ago our Weston vac sealer crapped out after 8 years of pretty steady work. I researched a bit and settled on the 15 inch Cabelas Commercial Packer.

So far it has been a good purchase. Seems to have more poop than any of the others we have owned. I understand the Cabelas 12 and 15 inch are a re-branded Weston made product.

With the Cabelas, they have a notice on just about every page of the manual that says you have to use double channeled bags. I tried some of my single sided channeled bags from DnR and they work fine. I was told before we bought it that it would use any bag type except of course the chamber bags. Right now there are no 8X10 bags in North America but you can buy the rolls and other sizes anyway.

In a nutshell I really like it and we bought the 15 inch mainly because I do a lot of dry aging in the larger aging bags.

The foodsaver models V4400 and V4825 seem to be bit more durable.
I have had the V4400 for about 6 years and it is still going strong. I use it weekly at a minimum.
These model are a few bucks more and you might have to search the net for one but mine just keeps working with no issues.

I got one of these and love it and would recommend it.

It was a Cabela's commercial grade sealer.

I have the commercial grade cabelas and am very happy with it. I can have it running for hours without it needing to cool off or have issues with the pump.

I haven't used the costco version, but I'm happy with Cabela's. Got it 100 bucks off a few years back on sale.

We use a Foodsaver, have had it 7 years (?) and it is going strong after much use. Maybe bought it at Costco but can't remember? Just finished up a batch of jerky........this model:

I had a foodsaver from Costco, lasted a couple years before it stopped sealing. Overheated all the time. Now I'm running the cabelas commercial (rebranded weston). Its been great. Never overheats

I have got the Food Saver that you linked to. It works the majority of the time but I notice when I go through things in the freezer after the fact probably about 30% have lost there seal. I either have to eat those ones right away or take the item back out, scrape the already formed ice off and re seal it. Kind of a pain in the ass.

What I found when I was buying is that you have no way to really directly compare them. What makes a $400 sealer different from a $150? I am sure some sealers maybe have a better pump, extract more air then others, give you a better seal? I don't know!. They don't give you any kinds of numbers on that. Buying one is a bit of a crap shoot.

That foodsaver has a big dispenser built in? Ok that’s cool... My Cuisinart works just fine but gotta cut and seal the bags by hand which is a little hassle.

I have the Cabela Commercial at home and the also their regular in my RV I like them both. However quite often they put them on sale. Got both the sealers on sale. As well Cabela's put their bags and rolls on sale which I like.

I own the 12” pro model and have put some serious hours on that bad boy, it hasn’t failed me yet. It may not be extremely fast but it hasn’t let up one bit after 3 years.

Cabelas bag rolls are nice, but there are wayyy cheaper alternatives around. Half less carries a nice product as well as amazon has a few choices that work well.

The ones here that have the Cabelas Commercial sealer are they easy to clean? My Food Saver is pretty simple. Flip the top down and pull out the two trays, wash dry and good to go

Yes easy to clean.

Bought the Halfords bags but they will not work on a Cabala's because they do not have the bumps or ribs in the back for air to come out.

The bump-less bags are for use in a commercial void chamber sealer like this.

I am on my third now almost wore out food saver if I were younger I would seriously think of a good version of the above! they work on wet products not bag suction.

Sounds like the Cabelas Commercial model is the winner!

I have a Costco sealer too, but our old, tired "FMA OMCAN" machine from Halfords years ago still had significantly more power than the Costco machine. We now use the costco machine to seal up trapping lure and urine bottles prior to shipping.

Did you do the maintenance on the vac pump on your old one?

So... I would like a little something extra from my vacuum bagger, and have been considering a chamber model. I'd like to be able to seal jars. Presently I use the foodsaver vacuum cannisters and put the sealers in, (loose ring). I vacuum and when I release the beans (or whatever) are good for however long. Unfortuneatly, that is a slow process and doesn't work with all size jars. The vacuum jar sealer that is sold is not great. I think they can do better.
