Thunder lake fishing?

My church group is heading out to Thunder Lake by Barrhead on Family Day, Monday, Feb 19th.

What I have been able to find so far on the lake is not thrilling me at all. Shallow lake with Pike and Perch subject to winter kill.

Are we wasting our time going there? This is not a lake I would choose myself, but I'm not the one making the decision.

Thanks for your help.

i heard it has winterkilled already. heard some people are finding fish swimming under the ice and come up the ice holes. could be far fetched but other reports are seeing dead pike as well.

I called the Barrhead office today & they confirmed the winter kill. They are going to do an O2 test.

Just spoke with Barhead F&W and they confirm it. They're pointing to the amount of snow on the lake as possibly being a factor in oxgen depletion. Stony Plain biologists are scheduled to test the lake soon.
