Hypothetically...

If you could go flyfishing anywhere in the world, and cost was irrelevant, where would you go, and why?

I'm kinda thinking Belize...:)

I've heard so many travel destinations from friends. My best friend wants to go to a Hudson Bay tributary to go for anadromous brookies. Also lago strobel in Argentina. I personally would want to go to tugurksy nature reserve and fish for taimen, grayling, Amur pike and lenok. It's very hard to access the area as well as the lodge.

Seychelles or Maldives.

Iceland. Beautiful untouched waters in the foothills. Huge salmon, char, and trout.

I've been there and definitely going back, Thingvellir National Park is a great park with tons of fishing. My profile photo is actually of a brown from Iceland. I didn't have more than a few hours fishing time, but it was great. Its one of my favorite places I've ever traveled.

That is an amazing video. The sight fishing aspect alone...

I'm planning to be in Zimbabwe next August and I'm planning to chase these things:

Not my first choice but I think I have to do it. Man...are they vicious and ugly at the same time.

For myself the best fly fishing is salt water by a long shot. You need to be able to cast much further with more accuracy so the challenge is a big part. A wary Brown trout is an easy sucker compared to a Permit...They hooked me after my first time. I think many of us dream of the perfect cast to the perfect fish and my daydreams are always on the flats. I have wanted to spend time in the Maldives and Seychelles fly fishing because I think they are not crawling with tourists like myself because they are not so easily accessed. The fly fishing is supposed to be incredibly good so for me it is the best of the best and an answer to the O.P's question.

Caprivi or Lake Tanganyika for Tigers
Mongolia for Taimen and lenok
Seychelles for GT's
Bolvia for Golden Dorado
Although not a big expense for me I would once again like to spend some solitude time on the wonderful small trout streams in the Fynbos hills of the western Cape in South Africa. A light split cane would be appropriate for this.

New Zealand... Oh the beautiful New Zealand back country...

Gary 09-18-2015 03:23 PM

Moved to the North Island of New Zealand from Cochrane 8 years ago. The fly fishing is fantastic but still miss the east slopes of Alberta.

Dont feel the need to go anywhere other than just Alberta or maybe the Cypress Hills. Still up there among the prettiest places on earth for me to fly fish in.
