opinions on a .223 mossberg mvp varmint
i am looking at getting a new gun, i would like a .223, for coyotes, target, gophers, i have a ruger american .243, rem700 lss 7mm mag ,30-30, .22
i would like it to be a heavy long barrel i was thinking about the mossberg mvp varmint, i'm a little concerned about the quality, i have mosberg shotguns that i have never had an issue with. i was also thinking of a semi auto for coyotes? i have looked online at a ruger mini 14 target, it is a little on the pricey side. some reviews on this gun are bad, could be the person not setting it up properly? with the harmonic dampener. i am not sure if i even need a semi auto? probably not any one have any experience with either of these guns? any other suggestions? |
I was looking at the mvp varmint but didn't like the stock. I went with the mvp patrol and not looking back.

I have an MVP Varmint. Over 1000 rnds through and not looking back. Accurate for the price, the AR mag thing is pretty ideal as well. I will be getting an MDT stock for it though, with a folding option to make it more behind-the-seat friendly.
I give it 5 stars, and I would recommend this product. |
I haven't had any issues. I will be getting one in 308 at some point.

Some guys knock the mossberg said but the few I have owned over the past few years have all been great shooters and are good value for the money

any other .223 long heavy barrel recommendations?

Savage 12 btcss .223 or 12fv . Shoots tiny little ever increasing holes. Gotta love it.

I have one of these in 22-250 comes with a 26inch heavy barrel and is also available in 223. love the gun |
I like the idea and look of those guns (dig the AR mag idea) but in handling them, the bolt feels very sloppy and the fit of the AR mag a bit questionable. Again, neither might matter at all if it's a shooter~after all, I shoot a Savage. :) Again, I've never shot one so these are impressions only, not real experience.
I honestly think if I was in the market for a new .223 at the moment, top pick would be a Tikka Varmint with a CZ527 Varmint very close behind it. |
I would steer clear of Mossberg. Variable quality and difficult resale.

Mvp
I have one and the accuracy is not to bad (1" MOA) but it is loose and sloppy. The clip rattles around and the bolt is very loose. Actually I have lost the clip (Maybe because of it being so loose) or just misplaced it. It was a package deal at Cabelas a while ago. It feels good but also feels cheap!

how was the scope? how was the bipod?, i was thinking of just getting a plain one, but the cost of adding those is more than the kit, but i have heard that the kit is cheap and not good |
X2 on the rem 700 sps Varmit
Had one in 204 ruger and it made 1 hole 5 shot groups after it warmed up.It usally took about 5-10 shots to warm it up and then wanted cleaned after about 75 rounds, but it was a really good shooter but a little finicky. My brother has one in 243 and it is not as finicky and it is a great shooter also. I had the mvp in 223 and it never impressed me , it shot around 1 inch groups. |
