Should we rename the whitefish?

Seriously, it's the most under rated fish and a lame name to boot;

Rainbow Trout,, can't argue with that or
Golden Trout
Brook Trout

Lake Trout is pretty bland

Brown Trout is really a beige trout and going for Browns sounds stronger than going for beige trout

So what would be a better name than whitefish, ever catch a lake white on a flyrod, holy shmoly

THUNDERFISH

think how the sportfishing would pick up.

Seriously, if you could rename it what would you call it?

Dust1n 09-22-2011 07:09 PM

one of the best sportfish IMO they fight like crazy and if u dont have a proper hookset and drag you will loose the fish. they fight very hard for their size :fighting0030:

Gust 09-22-2011 07:21 PM

greylynx 09-22-2011 07:22 PM

A lot of people refer to whitefish as stinkys

There is a little saying:

Stinky Stinky in the Lake.
Come and make your big mistake.

Jorg 09-22-2011 07:27 PM

but stinkyfish isn't strong and appealing,, try pitching "COME TO ALBERTA FOR OUR GREAT STINKY FISH"

Rocky Mountain Whitefish are lucky with their name due to what the Rockies and Mountain conjure up in the mind

Bruce or Randolf or Penelope

Does that mean you like the name or don't like the name ? But to keep on thread I kinda like the name silver fish or silver bullet fish, kinda describes them and is more catchy

Cockasain Fish?

BeeGuy 09-22-2011 08:06 PM

I think whitefish should be decriminalized for personal use.

But to answer your question: There's a video on the YouTube discussing this very issue in Idaho.

The suggestion was to name it the rocky mountain bonefish.

The RMW's have a great name.

Lake whites, not so much. Maybe tho, a bad name is better because it reduces fishing pressure.

How about Lake Squaw Fish.

Or Northern Carp Minnow.

Redfrog 09-22-2011 08:10 PM

I'm pretty sure you can smoke them now legally.:sign0161:

Yeah right, I don't buy it, next thing you know I'll be smoking goldeyes!

Whitefish is a gateway to lake chub.

fishstix 09-22-2011 08:46 PM

i tried goldeyes in high school. I Passed out and woke up in a local hospital. They put me on sardines to slowly ween me off the harder fish.

It worked...i guess. Although now im left to wonder what life could have been like without goldeyes.
