Slave lake
What are the conditions like near lesser slave lake provincial park. Also where are people getting on the ice at that end

Canyon creek was 3-3.5 feet of ice. Extension is a very good idea. East side lots to have lots of snow. I imagine it is drifted good. We are going to try out by the park tomorrow. Never fished it in winter time though. 4x4 forsure.

Any ideas where to get on the ice reasonably close to the park

Martin river. Turn off the highway, then at the tee turn left and there's a small campground. If it's open you can get access through there. Although not sure how deep the snow is unless you have sleds. That's as far as I know. The river is wide open and flowing so that area is not recommended. Aha

Slave
No extension needed on west end, getting close though.

Narrows
Opposite end of where your asking about, but was out Thursday over to Friday at the cabins by the Narrows and bite was slow. Ended with less than our limit but one good one at 60cm just past midnight. Found that dead sticks produced zero. Active jigging required to bring them in, but then hold the rod still while letting them slowly savour the minow. Don't be to quick to set the hook. And use tiny stinger hooks, often the Walleye are only very lightly nipping at the tail of the minow. Lots of snow and for most part extensions not yet needed except for clearing the holes in the cabin due to a few more inches of floor hight.

Ended up going out by widewater rather than try to find a way in by the park been dead out by the shacks today. Pretty much need a extension now lower handle on the manual auger just starts to hit the ice when it breaks though.

Slow at the Narrows today. Need an extension as well. Pushed out one truck and a sxs that were stuck on the lake. I wouldn’t try going on with anything but a quad or sled.

Joussard Ice Village
This thread should be called Lesser Slave Lake, not Slave Lake which is confusing - there is lots of hard water out there and most of the fishing is the west basin !
Due to the number of huts at Joussard, there is always a trail out to the fishing area. I've seen lots of frontwheel drive cars out there, but its mostly 4x4, quads, sleds and sxs. Almost a 100 huts now, biggest concentration on the lake I would say. Here are some shots from the end of January: http://southpeacenews.com/pics-jouss...shack-village/ Fishing lousy the last week, but up to then was decent and some days outstanding. Hope it picks up :) |

Like said below the bite has been slower. It should start picking up this week. 4x4 needed except maybe Joussard. Dogfish

I was amazed at the number of shacks out there. Some look like quite the fancy rigs. Headed up in the morning for the day hopefully the fish are more cooperative
