Favorite braided line

What's everyone's favorite braided/superline?

I'm looking to replace my old braided line after a few seasons and I can't remember what brand my old stuff was.

Will be for my summer walleye/pike setup 6.6 st croix and a pflueger patriarch

Thanks.

Berkley Fireline has been my line of choice for years

burbotman 01-29-2017 05:47 PM

I swear by good old spider wire 15lb. Like Frank's red hot...I use that .......on everything

huntsfurfish 01-29-2017 06:19 PM

My favorites are spiderwire, berk fireline, power pro and also stren fusion. Been a fan of spiderwire since it came out. Like it for its soft supple characteristics and like power pro for its stiffer characteristics(also for its depthmaster version). Each has its strong points.

Tried them all and Suffix 832 has become my go to for braid.

Power pro by a wide margin. Though I'm looking at getting some kast king cause it's like 1/10th the price and gets good reviews.

x2

Power pro for durability, power pro super slick for casting distance. I am going to be using super slick on most of my rods this year.

#1 PowerPro Spectra Micofiliment, Used it last 3 years , this braid acts like mono but 100 times stronger, no memory, no stretch, always comes off the spool relaxed & curl free. yup.

CenterPin 01-30-2017 02:53 AM

Surprised only 1 guy brought up suffix.

JohninAB 01-30-2017 04:17 AM

Power Pro or Power Pro Super Slick.

calgarygringo 01-30-2017 07:55 AM

Regular Power Pro on my reels I use for trolling and Power Pro Super Slick on the bait cast and spin cast reels for casting. I use these reels on my ice fishing rods all winter as well so they are used in all weather as well.

dfrobert 01-30-2017 07:58 AM

Power pro

FishingPole 01-30-2017 08:59 AM

Powerpro super slick especially on a baitcaster

X2 for Suffix 832 .....it even works fantastic on a slip bobber set up. Smooth as silk going through the bobber tube. Doesn't kink or get hung up like mono or Fluorocarbon because there is no memory in the line. It's my go to braid now and the Jumbo Perch don't seem to mind as long as you have a light Fluorocarbon leader attached to a swivel

yetiseeker 01-30-2017 09:28 AM

Another vote for Suffix 832.

Power Pro Super Slick.
Fresh water and saltwater. Excellent line.

Power Pro Super Slick.

DiabeticKripple 01-30-2017 11:43 AM

Power pro on spinning rods, power pro super slick on the baitcaster. A few feet of fluro leader at the end connected by a small barrel swivel.

EZM 01-30-2017 06:33 PM

Sounds like we have it covered ....

Power Pro - I use High Vis for trolling or casting with a fluoro leader so I can see a pickup on slack line and use the super slick on casting rods when I need the distance (usually lighter rods using lighter lines and lighter lures).

Also use a barrel swivel and fluoro whenever it makes sense to do so (always when trolling and most of my casting big stuff rods).

The barrel swivel isn't used on lighter line set ups where stealth is the key or when ice fishing (sometimes I use plain old mono for perch).

What's the advantage of a barrel swivel over just tying the braid and leader together? Less twist?

Remi3006 01-30-2017 09:02 PM

Yep, I always go back to Spiderwire.

I don't know about gear fishing, but when fly fishing I always use a swivel when nymphing to help to flies move and spin more freely as well as a little added weight.

genno 01-30-2017 09:26 PM

Green power pro 20# with flouro leader, add titanium leader for pike. I use a swivel between the main line and the flouro leader as well, just makes it easier to tie.

I keep going back to 14# Fireline in my spinning reels I'm considering the powerpro for my baitcaster so I'll be watching this thread. Thanks for the info!

tirebob 01-30-2017 09:53 PM

Sufix 832 as well... Awesome line!

bwch84 01-30-2017 10:03 PM

Thanks for all the feedback.

I like Power Pro for spinning and Fireline for ice fishing.
