What Do You Use Right Now?

If your spinning or baitcasting, what is your go to crankbait, jig, spinner, spoon, or fly. Even any combination of the above.
What's your favourite?
Just wondering what everyone uses for the hot summer months, or even before fall approach's.

Appreciated for the new River Fisher.

ps-I'm hoping my Rapala Team Esko's will work wonders.:)

buzz bomb, they never fail me.

Myself, I mix it up dependant on the location and species that I am targeting.

Trout on rivers, this time of year I enjoy dry flyfishing, but I rarely get out.

Pike, big spoons through the weeds.

Walleye, well I use a spin setup with a certain type of jigs and presentation, or a lindy rig.

I have yet to buy a baitcaster reel, watching my buddies who swear by them, and watching them build birds nests EVERYTIME they hook a fish, I just laugh and bring in mine with my openface reel.

But almost nothing beats fishing Spring salmon with roe and a slip bobber.

Interesting, I've only used bombs in the ocean n they work great. Jus curious what species of fish u use them for here in Alberta? Cheers:)

Jig them from trout or troll/cast them for pike.

mistamikel 07-17-2009 01:50 PM

Fishfinder, trout, pike, white fish and anything else that has fins :)

I'm like The Fisherman Guy.... I love dry fly fishing at this time of year.

I too have only used a buzz bomb on the coast and I must admit I would probably snicker to myself if I saw anyone pull out a buzz bomb and fished around here.

But then again if I saw someone catch with a buzz, you could bet I would be digging thru my box to give it a try.

I generaly like to fly fish but I always bring 2 baitcaster ( finaly getting them not to nest up and just incase it does thats what the second baitcaster is for)

I've heard good things about the buzz bomb but always wondered what colour to start off with. Any recommendations?

Ive caught at least 15 rainbow trout so far this season on the buzz and my wife nailed a 7lb brown with a buzz last sunday.

as for colors I prefer white with pink in middle or white with blue in the middle.

Fishfinder 07-17-2009 07:04 PM

Wow! Noted. Had no idea BB's worked so well for inland fishing. Gonna have to give them a try for sure. Hot pink 4- 4.5 inch was great on the sea but I think I'll downgrade for around here. Wonder if the mighty Sturgeon take to them?? As far as favorite hook goes, it's a tuff call for me, does depend on conditions and fish type but overall, when in doubt 5 of D (red) is what I throw on if nothings working. Pretty sure once I get around to learning how to fly fish, I may enjoy it quite a bit and change my mind on my "go to" hook preference. Jus looks like so much fun wrangling a big fish on a fly, not to mention the awesome strikes! Cheers all:)

last night me and the wife and kid went out to bearspaw and I wanted to get some flyfishing done, anyways 4 hours laters I didnt catch nadda on the fly so I whip out the buzzbomb and within 15 mins I caught a nice rainbow. Like I said the buzz bomb never fails me :)

Bottom bouncer and spinner with a bright yellow "gulp" jig on it, and storm hot'n tots.

Beazer 07-19-2009 04:15 AM

What weight buzz bombs do you throw?
Considering I will predominately be in the river.

mistamikel 07-19-2009 11:39 AM

2.5 with an 8lb line

tatonkagp 07-19-2009 04:50 PM

I have had some awesome luck with "GULP" bait its scent has been great for the wallys 100 boated in 4 hours with 4 guys fishing the same lure 4" shad black and silver. For my largest and most pike this year its a toss up with the williams wobbler or the kraclin rap.
