Granite countertop contractor recommendations in calgary- please!

Hello all!

I have been trying to get decent pricing from a decent granite place in calgary.

So far the best contractor I found turned out to be problematic/dramatic.

Has anyone dealt with this and found a good vendor with good pricing out this way?

I am really ****ed at the outfit Ive been trying to work with and wouldnt mind hearing some feedback or input. :angry3:

BTW, did you know granite places in town by their standard grade material at around $10 per square foot, medium grade around $20 and so on...

Arborite over 3/4 inch plywood works pretty good. Won't shatter your best crystal or wine bottles either, when they get dropped onto the counter.

Thank you!

Nothing against arborite, just reno'd the kitchen, new cabinets, new paint, new windows, new appliances. Might as well make it purty. :acigar:

One to avoid

You might want to steer clear of Active Marble & Tile; they completely butchered my counters and then told me to get bent when I claimed warranty. One quick lawsuit, roughly a full refund and these guys were off my Xmas card list forever.

I have heard good things about Granite Direct and Prestige Granite but have neer hired either.

I had great luck with Adanac Granite (really original name - Canada spelled backwards :sHa_sarcasticlol:), name aside, great price and service - wish I could remember the saleswoman we dealt with.
Adanac was recommended to us off this board.

Are you sure you want granite?? I've got them here and I'd rather have laminate over plywood.

Granite.

We used Prestige Granite in Calgary. Got good pricing & the installers were very good.

We got our counter tops from Jade stone,http://www.jadestone.ca/ and I was really pleased with them, prices were awsome, and delivery and install was on par.

Stay away from Granite Direct, they may have the best price , but the problem is it takes 6-8 weeks to get the product as it is all cut in China and if you slab breaks during shipping, you have to wait another 6-8 weeks.

Thanks guys, I have already contacted a couple of the above mentioned vendors.

I have been to some of the larger vendors in the city and their pricing was through the roof and their service wasnt great.

I will post the details of what the final results are and maybe a few pics to help the next person looking for granite.

:)

Give Tony at Vanam a call. Vaman Enterprises Ltd 7220 Barlow Trail SE, Calgary, AB T2C 2E1 403-230-1045
We did a kitchen reno last year and dealing with Tony was by far the best part. Being a bit of a rock hound I had a blast looking over all the slabs. We even went back for a second look just to make sure .

Here is the slab we went with, Typoon Bordeaux.

I have worked with West Point Stones in the past. They are a new operation, and are hungry for a good reputation. They are fairly quick, have a good product, and the pricing is pretty reasonable, IIRC.

Worth a look anyways.
